No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

Race: FSRC Resolution Run Series 20k (12.43 Miles) 01:27:16, Place overall: 17, Place in age division: 4
Total Distance
12.43

9:00am

Today's race was awesome! The weather was perfect (no rain, no wind), and my beautiful wife and son even came out to cheer for me as I ran by our house. They also came to see me at the finish line 1hour, 27minutes and 16seconds after I started! I crushed my goal of 90 minutes and beat my best 15k pace by 4 seconds per mile! I only placed 4th in my age group, but I got 3rd place for the overall series. What I lack in speed I made up for with persistence.

Mile splits: 6:56, 6:45, 7:03, 6:41, 7:05, 7:06, 7:13, 7:05, 7:16, 7:03, 7:06, 7:06, 2:43

I also had a motorcycle event to attend after the race and it was kind of funny all the weird looks I got this morning when I picked up my race number wearing big clunky boots and leathers. No, I didn't run in them, but that would have been impressive huh? Maybe next year.

Pace 7:01

Congrats on a nice race! If you look up mcMillanrunning.com, they have a running calculator that gives predicted results based on specific times. It's not perfect, yet one of the best predictors out there. Your time in this 20k translates to a 3:14 marathon (if properly trained). With continued training, the bq you're striving for should be in the bag.

Stepping the miles up looks like it's paying off big time. Great job! And third place in the series has got to make you feel good.

Nice job today. It's great that you got to run past your house. I raced a 10k toady (half the distance you did) at the same pace. I could not have kept that pace up for another 6 miles. You did great.

I've been setting my goals for these last 4 races based on the McMillan calculator chart for a 3:20:00 marathon. I fell a few seconds short on the 5k and have been gaining ground with each race since then. This race put me well ahead of schedule. If the numbers on the chart hold true and I keep training like I have, I may need to set a faster GMP. I'm sure the extra mileage is helping almost as much as all the encouragement I get from here :) Thanks!

Okay, invite me to the race when you decide to wear your leathers!!!

Great job on the race, you are having a strong year!! I say leave your goal as it is, and then blow it out of the water cause that always feels good!

Maybe in the fall for a halloween 5k... Should I wear the full face helmet too?

From Kelli on Sun, Mar 22, 2009 at 18:56:34 from 71.219.76.202

Most definitely! I will travel to WA to see you, but it would be more convenient for me if you would come run a 5k in Utah!!
