Tough run today! I felt really good when I started, so good that I actually had to focus on slowing my pace a little after the first mile. After mile 13 I stopped to get a drink and couldn't find my pace again after that. I was just feeling weak and out of breath for the next five miles. It was all I could do to keep running at any pace. I really wanted to walk and there was a pretty intense mental battle going on over that, but walkers don't go to Boston so I just gutted it out because I am going. I hope it was just the heat today(65°) and and maybe that I wasn't hydrated well enough when I started. I'm used to running in the 40's and 50's and I was wearing sweatpants instead of shorts. I was sweating a lot more than usual and probably should have had more water stops to keep hydrated. I guess if I'm going to have a bad day, now is the time to do it. I couldn't imagine feeling like that on race day, 8 more miles might have killed me.

Solid run.

I'm guessing you're right on about keeping yourself hydrated. Sam had a good discussion on her blog a couple of days ago about depletion runs. So, just keep yourself hydrated and feuled in your marathon and you'll do great.

I just read that discussion on Sam's blog and it sounds like I unintentionally did something very similar today. I didn't eat well yesterday and only had a banana and a little sport drink before leaving this morning. Looking back, mile 14 felt a lot like where I hit the wall at mile 20 in my first marathon. It was a terrible feeling, but now that it's over I am glad I kept going. Sometimes the only thing that keeps me going is looking back at times like that and knowing that I've done it before. I'm not sure I could ever do something like that to myself on purpose though. I'm just not that hard-core. Next week I'll be taking some gu with me for sure.

We've got some adjusting to do right now with these warmer temps. Now is the time to do so we'll be ready for warmth at SeaRnR if it happens. You had a great run and made a good deposit into the Bank of Acclimatization.
