7:00am

I'm still a few weeks away from pounding any pavement, but I got in a nice long workout today at the Y. I've been starting my workout each day with an hour on the hand bike and then 30+ minutes on the AMT, increasing that by 5 minutes at a time until I got to an hour. Today I started with only 15 minutes on the hand-bike, 10 minutes on the elliptical waiting for someone to free up an AMT and then 2X60 minutes on the AMT with a 5 minute cool down after each hour. No pain where the fracture was or in my hamstring. My right calf is a little more sore than my left, but not bad. When my leg is ready for a beating, the rest of me should be able to keep up!

you're back! nice workout. way to keep up the fitness while you are out. i am excited for you to start running again.

From rattletrap on Sat, Aug 22, 2009 at 15:54:14 from 24.19.93.139

Thanks Allie. I hope I can come back as strong as you did after your injury. I really want that BQ this fall! Hopefully I'll be able to transition from the machines to the cushy track at the high school next month.

From Kelli on Sat, Aug 22, 2009 at 17:02:29 from 71.219.64.200

You are one dang serious athlete! Nice work today, I can not stand machines so I am very impressed with your ability to stay on them for so long. Things will be great when you get back to running. What are your plans? Are you playing it by ear or do you have another marathon picked out? You know I am bringing cookies to Boston, who will I give them to?

From rattletrap on Sat, Aug 22, 2009 at 19:39:36 from 75.216.103.52

I don't really like the machines either, but I don't get bored like most people. I enjoy every minute I find where nobody needs anything from me :) I always tell my kids that I haven't been bored since they were born.

I'm still praying that I'll be ready for the Tri Cities Marathon on 10/25. If that doesn't work out, my last shot at a BQ this year will be back in Seattle on a more challenging course on 11/28.

From Kelli on Sun, Aug 23, 2009 at 01:30:48 from 71.219.64.200

You could always go to the one in California billed as the fastest BQ race in December sometime!

I think I have a small brain and that is why machines and I just do not get along! Every time i am on that bike I think of you and how long and fast you move on those things, and I try, but I just never make it!!!

That looks pretty good, but if I do an out of state marathon now I may not be able to afford Boston if I qualify :(

Tri Cities is only a 4 hour drive and $55 entry fee.

From Kelli on Sun, Aug 23, 2009 at 21:42:32 from 71.219.64.200

Very good point, another reason Scott NEEDS to get his BQ in St George (the 2nd fastest, I believe!) We were adding up how much money we have spent this year racing (entry fees, hotels, kids races, etc) and it was a little alarming!!!

From april27 on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 21:01:07 from 99.188.251.180

Great to hear things are coming along nicely! In the end you will be a stronger runner with this injury!

From rattletrap on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 21:40:12 from 70.193.83.178

Thanks April. I may be poorer because of it too. My wife has decided that my next marathon should be in Sacramento on 12/6 and since we'll be so close we need to go to Disneyland too. $$$ I may be hitch-hiking to Boston if I qualify :)

From Kelli on Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 00:54:16 from 71.219.64.200

Yeah for Sacramento and Disneyland! We had a trip planned for October but just found out my 16 year old can not miss a week of school. So what do we do? Leave her and take the other 4 kids or wait?

From rockness18 on Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 12:30:39 from 69.183.230.143

Great to see you gearing up to get back on the roads...love your attitude!

From rattletrap on Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 13:49:01 from 24.19.93.139

Kellie - Why can't you take her out of school for a week? What if she got sick for a week?

Dave - I wish I could get to Boston on my attitude alone. It would be so much easier :)

Everybody - My beautiful wife has concocted a master plan to get us to Disneyland via Sacramento on the cheap. Can you say dollar-diet? When I try it comes out kind of like Fonzie trying to say he was wrong :) We're going to tighten our belts for 90 days and not buy anything we don't need as well as cutting back on everything we do need. You can follow our progress here:

I said the same thing, but then I read the disclosures. She loses 5% of her participation grade for every day she misses. She has 3 concurrent enrollments classes (college AND HS credit) and on her report card each class counts as 3 grades, so it can really bring her GPA down. We may just have her fly out for the weekend and miss 1-2 days of school. We are driving and going to be gone for 9 days. It stinks!!!! We want her there, but we do not want to wait another year.

From rattletrap on Fri, Aug 28, 2009 at 14:10:27 from 24.19.93.139

Kellie - That's a bummer! 5% per day? That seems unfair unless the class is only 20 days long. You should join Kym's dollar diet to help pay for that plane ticket :)

Hey look at it this way--you can even put the money you would have spent for shoes towards your new trip!

And it is true--what you don't have you can't spend. We have had to tone it down with spending in the recent months b/c my SO's hours were cut and now he is laid off ever 3rd week.

From Kelli on Sun, Aug 30, 2009 at 18:42:08 from 71.219.64.200

A week later.....how are you feeling? Are we naggy enough for you?

From rattletrap on Mon, Aug 31, 2009 at 19:39:04 from 70.193.3.54

My right hamstring is killing me, but not from working out. I spent all day Saturday setting up for an outdoor wedding reception and must have pulled something. We moved lots of tables and chairs! I guess the good news is that everything that hurt before is still feeling pretty good. I'm sure this little ache will pass in a couple days. I'm probably going to take it easy for another month or so anyway and spend more time on the hand-bike since I'm waiting for the CIM in December. I may start posting my workouts again even though I'm not getting in any miles. I does help keep me motivated.

From Kelli on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 10:24:35 from 71.219.64.200

You are truly motivated not matter what. Enjoy the "break" and be careful at wedding receptions!

From rattletrap on Tue, Sep 01, 2009 at 10:54:15 from 70.192.22.237

HaHa, I hope your foot "heels" up quickly too :)

From Kelli on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 16:54:22 from 71.219.97.42

Am I buggin' ya yet? What's up?

From rattletrap on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 20:15:51 from 70.192.235.210

bugging me? No. I guess if I blogged more you'd already know what's up. I've still been doing at least an hour of cardio 5 days a week and 2 hours on day 6. Hopefully the doc will tell me I'm ready to run outside this Friday. I think he wants to get another x-ray to make sure my tibia is all good. I should be logging some easy miles on the cushy track at the high school very soon...

How's your foot? I haven't been keeping up on anyone's blogs lately.

From Kelli on Tue, Sep 08, 2009 at 22:38:16 from 71.219.97.42

Doing better, sill hurts a little here and there but I am told it always will. I am slower than molasses in the Arctic, but at least I can run!!!

Okay, hoping for good news on Friday!
