4:30am

I woke up feeling pretty good and did my 10 miler this morning. It was much easier than it was on Sunday morning at about the same pace and my HR monitor reflected that. I was very encouraged by this until later when the pain set in. No more real running for me until race day... ice, ibuprofen, heating pad... I'm getting ready to tape one of Kelli's cookies to my leg, something has got to help!

Man, so close yet so far away. I was taking 6 ibuprofen 3 times a day and soaking my legs in garbage cans full of ice at one point. Followed by Wintercrest. All in the name of not giving up fitness, with my race looming. I know how you feel, very tough to run injured. I hope it all works out for you. You deserve that magic race day my friend!

Thanks for the encouragement Mike! I don't know if I deserve this race, but I have certainly worked hard for it.

Cookies to the leg??? No put that bad boy in your belly! Yum! Don't get discouraged--a positive attitude is half the battle in this running business..and I agree--no more real running till race day!

From Kelli on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 20:45:06 from 71.219.76.64

Magic cookies???

Take it easy. Look at how you thought you were losing fitness, but today was fine aside from the pain. Rest the leg, wait for the race, and you will still be amazing!!!

My PT also says I need to take it easy and think positive about a great marathon. No more running or REX before the race. I just spent some time studying the course, reading the band line-up and reviewing my blog history with all those sub-GMP long runs... After taking nearly a month off a 3:20 would be pretty amazing, but I think it's still in the realm of possibility if I'm feeling good on race day and the conditions are right. BTW those cookies taste WAY TOO GOOD to waste one by taping it to my leg :)

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 18, 2009 at 19:37:43 from 71.219.76.64

Yeah, cookies are better in milk than sweat.

I think you can do it. I KNOW you can do it. No one ever knows what race day will bring, but we will think positively and see how it goes.

Kelli - Thanks again for the encouragement!

Burt - Thank you, it was a great day; I hope yours was too!

How are you feeling????

From rattletrap on Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 20:31:54 from 70.192.248.46

Physically: My leg is feeling better each day, but it's still sore. My PT wants me to do 3 miles tomorrow just to loosen up and remind my legs what it's like to run before race day. I'm looking forward to that :)

Mentally: I'm a wreck as far as being "race ready" goes. A terrible week at work has put me a long ways from my "happy place". Ok, I'm through whining now. On the bright side, I don't work until monday and I'm spending all day with my son at the fitness expo tomorrow. We're both going to volunteer for a few hours and then just hang out and do whatever.

From Mike Warren on Wed, Jun 24, 2009 at 21:33:55 from 208.117.124.133

No pressure! Just have fun in your race. It's not like you wanted to get injured. No matter you have already won and achived some increible things. Relax and enjoy my friend.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 00:40:31 from 71.219.76.64

Hopefully the day off will help you mentally. I should have sent cookies this week!

From rattletrap on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 23:35:59 from 24.19.93.139

Thanks everybody. I'm pretty stoked after volunteering at the t-shirt pickup area today. It was a very cool expo and the race is going to be even better. I'm planning to have a great race no matter what my time is.
