7:15am 2Samuel 4 - 1Kings 15

Last week was so much fun I decided to do it again. I took a slightly shorter route to the park this time, but it seemed like the hills were worse. PointDefianceShortcut Looking at the elevation chart I can see that it is actually a much easier route, both distance and elevation-wise, 562' of climb in 12.5 miles vs 625' in 13.5 last week. The trail run was a blast! There was a big group and we did a really easy pace. I was feeling the miles on the way home though. I got a killer cramp in my right calf and I felt really sluggish for the last 5 or 6 miles. I think I just pushed too hard on the uphill miles between the park and N30th st. because my time coming home was still faster than getting there. I miss my garmin, I don't like not knowing what my pace is all the time. I know I would have ran much slower today on purpose if I knew how fast I was going. I'll probably rest tomorrow and maybe even Tuesday if my calf isn't 100%.

Wow! You mileage for the day will probably be my mileage for the week!

Are you planning to do any long ultras this year?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sun, Jun 10, 2012 at 16:29:30 from 174.253.209.210

Carl - I have no desire to ever do an ultra. I just really like the trail runs with the group out at Point Defiance and it seems silly to waste gas driving out there for a run when it is so "close". The longest race on my radar right now is probably 18 or so miles in the Northwest Passage Ragnar Relay next month with team Fly By Night.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sun, Jun 10, 2012 at 16:33:52 from 174.253.209.210

That mileage is really a lot easier than it seems too, when you consider that I had about a 20 minute break before and after a really mellow trail run in the middle.

From Carl on Sun, Jun 10, 2012 at 16:59:43 from 216.161.242.12

Yah, I understand. I hate the idea of driving somewhere, just so I can run and then drive back home. I love trail-running too! It helps tame my desire to go backpacking in the mountains.

Still... I see a 50 mile ultra in your future...

You should check out the Defiance 50K. 3 laps around the trails in Point Defiance, or you can just do one or two laps. It's in June I think. I'll definitely think about that one next year.

From DLTheo on Mon, Jun 11, 2012 at 09:08:08 from 108.42.13.219

Actually it is in October (13th), and you can do 15k, 30k or 50k.

Trap, you are nuts. Master of the 30 mile fun run.

Master of Gastrocnemius destruction. That killer cramp I got during this run still hurts! Something is definitely not right in there. I guess I can take a few more days off and still have decent mileage for the week :)

From Laputka on Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 18:47:47 from 98.202.142.68

wow, just wow. I read about your 30 mile day last weekend and couldn't even think what to say to you. I wonder if there is an Ultra runner in you trying to break out?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 18:51:05 from 174.233.133.161

Laputka - Yeah, he's a little dude stuck inside my calf trying to cut his way out with a bottle opener...
