6:30am Joshua 4 - Ruth 3

My Garmin finally kicked the bucket. It won't lock into any satellites so no pace splits etc. I even hard reset it back to factory defaults. All I got today was total time for each leg of this run. I used the Course Tool to get the mileage for my route to the park and back(Thanks Sasha!) PointDefiance and one of the other runners got the trail mileage. The plan was to run to the park and have breakfast at a nearby restaurant then meetup with the group for a 9:00am trail run. I got a late start trying to get the Garmin working and ended up running faster than expected since I had no idea what my pace was. When I got there the restaurant was closed so I skipped breakfast and sprinted over to catch the 8:00am group for an extra 3 miles on the trails(turns out they don't actually leave until 8:15). There was a little break after each trail run and the second one was a little shorter than I expected so I guess it's a good thing I made it early :)

The trails in the park were full of hills, stairs, rocks, roots, mud and monkey bars. Fun stuff! I stopped the clock for a coffee break at Forza on the way home. The weather was perfect for a run today and I really needed the downtime after a stressful week, I couldn't have timed this one any better. My Ragnarly meter is pegged!

wow! nice day! all those miles, including some tough trail miles, and you still had a nice brisk pace for the 13.59 home. you're pretty dang fit!!

Are you kidding me? Nice running today!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Sun, Jun 03, 2012 at 22:43:56 from 174.253.209.115

Thanks. This was a really fun day and I was very surprised to see my pace when I got home and mapped it out. It felt super easy except the first mile or two uphill leaving the park on the way home.

From I Just Run on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 09:06:07 from 67.79.11.242

Crazy!!!! I wouldn't be able to move the next day after this run. No, I would have never finished a run like this. You are amazing!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 09:21:45 from 174.253.193.166

IJR - I feel great today except for a blister on my big toe. Darn trails! I'm still eating everything in sight and trying not to be too bummed out about the passing of my trusty 305. It's gonna cost me $249 to replace it with a 310xt.

From I Just Run on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 09:30:45 from 67.79.11.242

Why don't you just buy another 305? I've seen them for just over $100 on e-bay or amazon...I can't remember which.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 09:51:08 from 174.253.193.166

Not lately for that price. I thought about it when the battery went bad in mine, and they were over $200 everywhere. Now they are $289. I managed to squeeze a few more months out of it with a battery transplant and now with almost 4 years of heavy use I think I finally got my money's worth out of it. REI has the 310xt for $249 with their forever warrranty. I wish I would have got my 305 there instead of trying to save a few bucks buying it online.

From I Just Run on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 10:20:56 from 67.79.11.242

I wonder why they have gone up so much? I paid $135 for mine.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 10:25:06 from 174.253.194.139

I think it's just because they are awesome and Garmin doesn't make them any more. The few remaining are either new old stock or refurbished.

From DLTheo on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 11:57:45 from 155.130.107.41

Nothing Garmin has made since the 305 compares with it. People have figured that out and so it's demand has shot up. I hope I have at least a couple years left on mine before I have to replace it. Maybe by then Garmin will have something as good or better.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 14:06:55 from 24.18.125.122

I like the 310xt and have wanted to upgrade for a long time. I just didn't want to pay for it. It looks like basically the same watch as the 305 except waterproof, longer battery life, and wireless. The wireless part kind of sucks, but they are all like that now.

From I Just Run on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 14:09:30 from 67.79.11.242

Obviously you need longer battery life, but you should read this article posted on Derhammer's blog today:

IJR - I don't think 40-50 mpw ever killed anybody. If so, I'm willing to risk it :) I have no doubts that my previous lifestyle would have killed me off a lot sooner :)

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 15:39:19 from 24.18.125.122

I'd be happy too if I had time to run 170 mpw for 20 years!

Sorry about the Garmin, I have a massive IronMan Timex watch I won in a race. You can have it!

From Dan on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 19:23:21 from 24.209.83.20

I'm late but wow... Sweet running! Sorry about the Garmin. I actually like my 405cx, even though most people hate the bezel.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 19:31:01 from 98.247.27.122

Kelli - My 305 still works as a stopwatch, just no GPS :(

Dan - My daughter just got a 405cx and the bezel is a PITA. They're a lot cheaper, but I'd rather pay more to get something I actually like.

From Kelli on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 20:14:51 from 67.172.235.55

It is a GPS, you can swim and ride bikes with it. It is about twice the size of a garmin, too.

From Dan on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 20:41:46 from 24.209.83.20

It was for me too at first, but once I got the sensitivity right, I figured it out quickly. I do love that I get satellite in about 5-8 seconds regularly. But you are right, pay for something you want!

From DLTheo on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 21:29:51 from 76.28.161.119

How come you don't have a track? Are you traveling? SHS has a great track.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 21:30:45 from 98.247.27.122

Kelli - Is it one that has a separate GPS unit you wear on your arm? I used to have one of those.

From J Cole on Mon, Jun 04, 2012 at 21:53:44 from 199.254.206.4

Very nice run! I made the jump from the 305 to the 310xt last winter after losing my 305. Had my 305 for 3 years or so and loved everything about it. Since switching I love eveything about the 310 even more (not crazy about the wireless thing but it doesn't take any longer than the 305 to transfer).

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 06:56:01 from 67.172.235.55

The timex is a GPS watch, just like a garmin. It is last years model.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 08:44:53 from 24.18.125.122

Kelli - That thing is ginormous! I'll get super-buff like Freddy if I wear it on the same arm every day :)

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 12:20:01 from 174.239.193.42

I just paid Garmin support $79 for a flat rate repair/replacement of the 305. When they receive my old one they will ship a refurbed replacement. Unless they decide not to after they see mine has already had some unauthorized "service" :)

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 17:32:29 from 24.18.125.122

Kelli - Thanks for offering. I didn't mean to sound ungrateful. That was really, really nice! I actually checked to see if it was compatible with my sporttracks program, but it's not and I'm such a nerd about my running stats that I'd rather buy another 305 than accept a free Timex. Sick huh?

You should sell that thing on ebay to pay for some races :)

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 18:16:46 from 24.18.125.122

Scott - I missed your comment about the track earlier. SHS keeps their track locked up now :( I still need to check the one at Lakes, I'm guessing they do to since it's even newer than the one at SHS.

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 21:54:25 from 67.172.235.55

I can not give this thing away! No one wants it. I bet I could not even make $25 on it. Oh well, I did not pay for it.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 22:17:03 from 174.253.201.136

Kelli - OK, here's the deal: If you send some cookies with it, I'll take it off your hands :)

From Kelli on Tue, Jun 05, 2012 at 22:27:05 from 67.172.235.55

Actually, I think you should come get it. On your bike. Wait, it would make the bike tip over, it is THAT heavy!

From I Just Run on Wed, Jun 06, 2012 at 05:04:11 from 166.147.72.155

Kelli,

I've been thinking about it. I could use a little extra cash . If you would pay me a reasonable amount, I would take that thing off your hands but I'm not paying for shipping, you have to pay that too!

From Kelli on Wed, Jun 06, 2012 at 06:58:26 from 67.172.235.55

Once again, this thing has to weight its worth in gold. I bet it would cost me more than it was worth to ship it. Honestly, it reminds me of when cell phones were those big huge brick things. Which, speaking of that, give me hope that one day I can even buy a garmin that is a nice little feminine watch. Or, better yet, hooks into my ipod and is the size of a dime.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Jun 06, 2012 at 07:25:28 from 98.247.27.122

You should give it to somebody for Christmas. It could be like the scary fruitcake that my family re-gifts to somebody every year :)

From I Just Run on Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 14:35:47 from 67.79.11.242

you know, I saw several broken ones on ebay very cheap. I wonder if you could buy one from ebay and send it in and have them repair or replace it?

From rAtTLeTrAp on Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 14:59:01 from 174.253.196.129

I don't see why not. It's a $79 dollar repair and you're getting a refurbed replacement so I wouldn't invest much more than that.

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 07, 2012 at 18:42:54 from 67.172.235.55

WOW, good service! Better than my service on the Times would have been.
