Today was Harry Davis Hill day. I always love this one because it kicks my butt every week. My legs seem like they are strong enough but my lungs have a hard time keeping up with the steep grade which is around 8% to 10%, just brutal. I usually run it around a 10:00 mile and that is usually fast or a good day for me when I can keep it at that pace. I did a warm up mile of 8:22, followed by, 8:29 at the start of mile 3 is at the base of HDH, my split there was 10:04, and then followed by an 8:37. I did 2 miles at Marathon Goal Pace, 7:37, and then 7:26,  my 7th mile split was a cool down at 8:22 for a total of 59:06. All in all I felt really well I just wish I could get my lungs to keep up with the faster pace but I am just not there yet I try to do speed work once a week and then hill work as well once a week I don't know if I can handle any more speed work and then recover in time for the next days run. I don't know what the general rule is so if anyone reads this I would like to have your in-put.

I also did 35 minutes of lower body weight training with the bowflex and some core training with that. Tomorrow will be a recovery run and I think I will need it, I had a good workout today.

Good work out today. As far as recovering from harder days/speedwork it really depends on the individual. However, during my high mileage training routine I was able to run hard workouts (tempo/speedwork) twice a week and one long run (17-20 miles) a week and have sufficient recovery time. I would run first hard day on Tuesday, then second hard day on Friday followed by a long run on Saturday. Occasionally I would run hard daya on Tuesday and Thursday. The key is making sure the recovery days between the hard workouts is true recovery. With that in mind you should be able to handle two workouts during the week and a long run on the weekend.
