| | Leisure Sunday snowshoe to the upper water tower and back, around 8 miles. Good way to start off the new year.
| | Stopped before I got frostbite, 4 miles. 6:35 avg pace
5 after we got home, 6:50 average. Had a nasty fall around mile 3, took awhile to shake that off. Hoped it was just scrapes but my right knee is bruised so that's fun.
Launch Miles: 4.00 | Triumph ISO Miles: 5.00 |
| |
| | Mile warmup and drills. Knee was still bugging so I stretched and went inside. Did 8 on the treadmill, knee warmed up pretty good. Took the first half easy then went faster the second half with some "strides" the last mile. 6:57 average pace
| |
| | Loop up center st to skyridge and down killers. Saw Kauffman so I ran with him for a sec but he was finishing up. Knee felt a lot better today and I think the hills helped loosen it up. 6:25 average pace
| | Mile warmup and drills. 1.5 EZ then 10 all out hill pushes around the pit. Lots of snow, steep hills, 18 degrees, 5 with the wind. Gotta love it, 6:48 average pace.
Ole annual bsa swim check, 100m
| | 7 on the treadmill, 6:50 avg pace, 2.5-3 incline. Cooked slowly in the scorching furnace of death until I was swimming in my own sweat, then wandered out the door and became an icicle in a frozen wasteland
| |
| | Went to byu to watch. Did the run there in 10 degree weather. Mile warmup then 5 miles with Collin and Michael, 5 by myself. Ran on the Provo River Parkway and the streets around campus. Fell again and landed hard on my hip, now I have a deep tissue bruise. I feel like an old man with all this joint pain. Good times with the bros tho and gan cuz she came to Costa Vida too
| |
| | Early morning abs and a little upper body lifting.
Decided to go home after school and take a nap then run after. Turned out to be a glorious decision cuz it was hecka windy and sleeting hard during the run. Ran around thanksgiving point, the roads were super slushy. Had a lot of adrenaline from the weather, 6:20 avg pace. Got home and dried off like I'd just taken a shower, adventurous run.
| | Warmup and drills then 2.5 including strides. Mile repeats on the track with 4 min active rest in between. Splits were 4:52, 4:48, 4:45, 4:47. Was going to do 5 and get into the 4:35-4:40 range but my stomach felt like crap. Not what I wanted but I'm ok with it cuz it's early in the season. 1.5 mile cool down.
| |
| | Early morning strength training. Nothing too hard.
Willow park JRT loop plus another mile, 6:35 average pace. Down weeks suck but they're hecka important.
Night swim/aqua jog workout with Brecken, added up to 225m.
| | Mile warmup and drills. 6 miles at 6:20 average. Then 2X400 and 2X200. First 400 on the track was 66. Couldn't really get going and felt like I was going to slip in the snow so I did the others on the road. 64 for the other 400 then 31 and 30 for the 200s. XC banquet tonight is gonna be lit
| | 800 warmup then upper body lifting. 6.5 mile Freedom Elementary loop and an 800 on the track to finish, 6:18 average pace.
| | To the lake and back, 6:25 average
| | Balled with LP guys. Then drove up suncrest with my parents and ty. Ran while they shoeshoed. Went the rest of the way to the top of suncrest, then down past the truck for a while then back up. 6:28 average pace, I'm going to check the elevation change on garmin connect later
| | Mile warmup and drills then 2 miles with strides. 3 sets of 2X600 with 1 min in between 600s and 3 min in between sets. Didn't get the first split but the others were 1:40, 1:38, 1:41, 1:40, 1:43. Cool down to 9. Stomach felt awful again, gotta get that figured out. If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.
| |
| | Early morning lifting, lower body
No practice today so I signed up for our schools ping pong tournament. I'm a baller so I won but there was only 4 people so not that impressive. I got a shirt and escape room tickets tho so that's lit. Ran after I got home. Went down past the farms, a lot more cars than usual out there. Looped back on redwood and 2100. Took it pretty easy, 6:57 average pace.
| | 10 min warmup around the halls. Workout was distance with 10 hill repeats at the pit. I kept slipping so I only did 2 at the pit and the rest up airport, cedar ridge, and killers. 6:52 avg pace, fastest mile was 6:15, slowest was 7:35. Snowed the whole time so that was great.
| | Upper body lifting in the morning.
Easy run today. Did the mile warmup and drills. Still hecka sore from the past couple days so I did another warmup mile. Went into AF and up 1st East, looped back by the cemetery. 6:47 average pace
| | 2 church ball games. Won one lost one, didnt go very hard.
Drove to the ice oval with Tyson and Savannah. 3 lap warmup then 10 mile long run, a little over an hour. Took the first five miles easy, 6:38 pace, second 5 at tempo, 5:40 pace. 3 strides from the mile start, 20 min biking, and hip exercises after. Stomach didn't feel horrible but didn't feel great either. Stoked to race at the oval next week.
| | 3 miles to skyridge then 8 with the guys. Counting 2 miles as warmup, the rest was around 7:30 pace. Went up the jail trail in snow that varied from ankle to waist deep. Then looped through some neighborhoods and back on the MCT. Sick run, running with my boys was lit. 20 min biking after
Night swim/aqua jog workout with Brecken, 225m
| |
| | Mile warmup and drills. 12 min easy then started right into the workout. Fartlek was 8-10 3 min pushes with 90 sec distance in between, went out past willow park. Started to get a shoulder stitch and fall off pace after 8 so I took 5 min distance then did the last 2. Paces ranged from 4:45-5:05. 16:25 5K and 33:30 10K somewhere in the workout. 5:52 average pace for the whole run. Definitely the hardest workout I've done since November. Think it's time to retire the Zantes. I'll probably get another pair unless anybody has any other suggestions for a good speed shoe I should get.
| |
| | Mile warmup then 8 on JRT, 6:48 avg pace. Light strength training after.
| | Mile warmup and drills. Did an AF loop, got a little lost but not bad. 9 miles with some strides near the end, 6:25 average pace. Strides were 400 in 64 and 200s in 29, 28. Ready to have some fun tomorrow

| Race: |
UHSTCA Champs (1 Miles) 00:04:16, Place overall: 6, Place in age division: 6 | | 1.5 mile warmup. A little nervous but mostly excited to race in a really stacked race. Got out to near the middle and got on the inside. Let most everyone pass on the outside and just stayed in lane 1 for the first 2 laps. Hit 800 in a little over 2:10. Started to move and kept passing people the last 2 laps. Decent kick, only thing I would want to be faster. Coach said I closed in a 2:04 and 62 tho so that's great. Awesome first race considering my training and what happened at footlocker. 3.5 mile cool down.
| |
| | Went to the ice oval to cheer for the 2 mile peoples. Ran 10 around Kearns with Jiree, 6:43 avg pace. Running with him was so sick, he's a cool kid. I had 1 more mile and I felt amazing so it ended up being 5:30. Biked for 20 min in the oval, rolled out, biked for 10 more minutes. Almost wished I had raced the 2 mile today cuz I was feeling so great but its all good, I need to be patient early in the season.
| | Early morning lifting, lower body
Mile warmup. Needed a quiet run so I did a loop with the AF bus garage and boat dock, 6:20 average. Went on a lot of roads I've never run before and brought back memories from when we had a boat. I'll probably do this run more cuz it was nice. Only bad part was the dead cat. And the distracted lady that almost ran me over
| |
| | Mile warmup and drills. Another mile then 3X2 mile at short tempo pace with 2 minutes active in between. First one was 5:25, 5:20 so 10:45, second one was 5:20, 5:10 so 10:30, third one was 5:12, 5:05 so 10:17. I forgot to put my gloves on so my hands almost fell off but other than that it was good. 4 mile cool down
| | Mile warmup. Through AF to art dye park then MCT and Sami's road back to the high school, 6:35 average pace. Went a mile over so I'll take it off tomorrow or Friday.
| | Mile warmup. 10 min easy to the rail trail. Fartlek was 15X30 sec pushes with 90 sec distance in between. Pace range was pretty wide (3:55-4:30) because of the hills. Saw Watson and Mario, they're super cool. Average for the whole run was 6:20.
| |
| | Mile warmup and drills. Much needed recovery run. Ran by Luke's and picked him up, went around the roads by his house, then I went back to the high school, 6:50 average pace. Missed running with that kid, he's pretty cool for a freshman. Perfect weather today too
| |
| | Busy day, started my run at 5:30 so half of it was in the dark. 1 mile warmup then long run, went on the JRT golf course way. It got hecka slushy going up past the windmills so I turned onto redwood road at the top. Went to the bike light at mountain view corridor then turned around and went home on redwood and 2100. Cruised the last four miles, didn't push but didn't hold back. Those were 5:50-6:15. Average pace for the run was 6:25. Breeze felt amazing on the way back, this is why we run. Legs felt good, good long run, good week of training.
| | Bench and inverted rows before I had to go to early morning seminary.
No practice today but I didn't know we had a workout on the track so I didn't bring my stuff. Went home and changed then did a mile warmup plus 2 more miles to get back to the high school. Drills and strides then started the workout. 8X800, 200 with 30 secs after the 800s and 2:30 after the 200s. Splits were 2:20, 30, 2:18, 32, 2:21, 32, 2:21, 31, 2:20, 32, 2:21, 32, 2:20, 32, 2:21, 30. Tough workout, the wind and my stomach did not help. Cool down back to my house, saw my grandparents and they gave me a ride the rest of the way cuz I was already over mileage and it's a down week. Finished upper body lifting when I got home
| |
| | Mile warmup. Recovery run, looped up 600 W and down killers. Luke ran with me for 2 but then he turned around. 6:47 average pace
| | Mile warmup then a mile easy and drills. 7X400m hill repeats on airport, 5 up, 2 down. 1:30 rest in between the middle repeats, jog back down in between the first and last repeats. Splits were 82, 78, 63 (down), 80, 63 (down), 81, 82. Good effort, harder than I thought it would be. 5 mile cool down, 6:50 avg pace
| | Mile warmup and drills. Snaked around lehi for a couple miles then did strides. 2X200m, both in 28 high, 2X100, both in 13 high.
Sickest bike ride ever and we only went 20. Austin came over and we did JRT golf course way, tried out my new Trek hybrid I got for Christmas. Got to where the trail stops at a dirt road and decided to try and find where it kept going. Found the trail and it just got lit from there. Never been on such a cool section of trail, the scenery was amazing. Stopped to eat some granola bars, wanted to keep going but we had to get back before dark. On the way back, the sunset was so bright shining on the mountains so we stopped to take that in for a while from up on the golf course. Indescribable feeling really, once in a lifetime moment and it only lasted about a minute. Epic ride, great convos, nice bike, lots of hills, wind in our faces, getting hyped, 3:45 mile without breaking a sweat, you guys have no idea how life changing this was. Words don't do it justice. Shout out to Austin cuz it wouldn't have been as sick without him. If anyone ever wants to go riding hit me up, I'm always down. It doesn't get much better than this.

| Race: |
Distance Challenge (0.497 Miles) 00:01:59, Place overall: 5, Place in age division: 5 | | Mile warmup then 2 miles easy. Gun went off and I got out good into third place. Just kept grinding, ended up getting passed by Kauffman then outkicked by Adam Wood. Felt alright but it was definitely hard to get moving and the lactic acid hit me big time in the second lap. Don't have the speed yet and I need to work on my form and kick but this was a PR and my first time under 2. A mile after, 6:50, then a mile tempo, 5:27. Then 3X400 at 2 mile, mile, 800 pace, all with full recovery. Splits for those were 70, 65, 67. The effort was there on the last one, my legs just wouldn't move faster and I was going into a gnarly headwind. Half mile to finish up.
| |
| | Mile warmup. Past the farms and out towards eagle mountain and back, 6:53 avg pace.
Unfortunately my launches have started rubbing the skin off the back of my heel so I have been forced to retire them. I think I'll wash them and take them to school for the lehi vs skyridge shoe drive, along with my old zantes. Hopefully they can be of good use to somebody
| | AM- 3.5 miles, 6:55 avg then lifting
Mile warmup then 1.5, strides, drills. Workout was 2 sets of 3X800 followed by 400. 90 sec rest after the 800s and 5 min in between sets. Splits were 2:18, 2:18, 2:20, 63, 2:19, 2:25, 2:25, 66. 1.5 mile cool down
| | Needed a trail run so I drove to skyridge and ran on the trails up there. 11 miles, counting one as warmup, the rest was 7:02 average. Saw some of the guys so I ran with them off and on, second half by myself. The trails were kinda muddy still but not too bad. Lots of hills, saw some deer 🦌. Fun stuff today
| | Ran to the dip trails but they were still a little to wet so I hopped on the MCT and took it to center st and down to the high school. Strides in the last couple miles, 400 in 72 then both 200s in 32. 6:35 avg pace, kinda fast cuz I had to get back for an interview. My legs are wrecked so simplot should be fun, I'll try and ice tonight
| |
| Race: |
Simplot Games (1.988 Miles) 00:09:27, Place overall: 3, Place in age division: 1 | | Got to the arena and did a mile on the track with a couple little strides. Warmed up another mile and a half with more strides. Gun went off and I settled into second position but let too many people go by the first 800. Didn't realize my pace was too slow until it was too late. Took the lead and tried to make up the lost time but it just wasn't going to happen. Kinda ticked at myself because I ran faster during xc practice but oh well, sub 9:20 is coming. I was the third qualifier for finals but I have sweethearts dance on Saturday so I can't race. Cool down to a canyon, found some sick trails but of course they were too muddy so I went back on the road. Still wanted to do three in the canyon so the cool down ended up being a little over 7, 7:10 average pace. Cool scenery but lots of hills, I am exhausted.
| |
| | Mile warmup and drills. Down 200 S and past greenwood elementary in AF. Never really been down there so that was sick. Saw a couple deer 🦌 on the way back. Planned on going 7 but I was feeling pretty good so I did 9, 6:45 average. Brought the repetitions back out cuz they're the only shoe I have rn besides the triumphs
Altra Repetition Miles: 10.00 |
| | Mile warmup. Same run as last Saturday just longer. 7 miles at 6:35 average then a 6 mile tempo. My watch died with 3 miles to go so I used time to calculate the pace, 5:30 average for the tempo. Half marathon in 1:19:50 which is a PR, 6:05 avg pace. Felt hecka good today. Only my second time doing this run but I really like it. I'll have to apologize to my sweethearts date tonight cuz I'm pretty sure I'll pass out at some point
| | Mile warmup. Had a lot of crap on my mind so I just went. 10 miles, 6:20 average. Ran to the lake and looped back on the Jordan river trail. Saw the skyridge guys so I went back with them, counting that as cool down. Had French toast at the Hinckley's and had a family reunion. It was sick hanging out with them.
Biked around 15 miles on the JRT golf course way, pretty much sucked.
Biked another 35 with the Hinckley's on the Murdock canal trail. Shoutout to them for being sick bike buddies. Long rides with them are always a party. Fastest mile was 2:40, average was around 4:00. Very windy but fast and fun. My legs are wrecked
| | Mile warmup and drills with Brecken. 10 more minutes then fartlek: 3 sets of 2 min on, 1 min distance, 6 min on, 3 min distance. Went down main st to willow park then back past willow creek middle. Paces for the 2 min ranged from 4:55-5:00. Paces for the 6 min ranged from 5:05 to 5:15. 25 mph winds and tired legs from yesterday made for a tough workout. Cooled down to the cemetery and decided to throw it back to the whistle hill days. Did two 15 sec and one 20 sec up, then one 15 sec down. Finished up to 11, 6:10 average pace for the whole run.
| | Recovery, freedom elementary loop, 6:45 avg pace
| |
| | Asked someone to prom instead of going to practice because I had a dentist appointment at 3:30 and I didn't want to be late to that. Ran after I got home. Mile warmup. Some more to get to the pit then the sickest workout of all time. 30 min all out in the pit with 2 steep hills thrown in. It was super wet and muddy, I was covered from the start. Coach said to start around 6:15 pace and work down but of course I started sub 5 lol. Controlled myself and cruised, ended up with a little over 5 miles, 5:58 avg pace for the 30 min. The mud made it really tough, almost lost my shoe and my balance a couple times. Fun, dirty, strong workout. Cooled down back to my house, 6:18 average for the whole run.
| |
| | Early morning lifting, upper body
Went swimming with some of the team. Just did a couple laps and then messed around, it was fun. Ran after I got home, to Camp Williams and back, 6:12 avg pace. Last mile was 5:45 cuz I realized I was going to be late for my date lol. Which was amazing so huge thank you to Rachel
Altra Repetition Miles: 9.00 |
| | Phone said it felt like 13 degrees outside when I left. Mile warmup, Saratoga loop, 6:28 average pace. Saw Riley and Dallin and ran with them for a half mile. Was tempted to go back with them but that would've put me around 2.5 over and I'm already a little over this week. Training feels really good right now. French toast at the Hinckley's after, actually did a whole 5 minutes of abs, played some ping pong and got wrecked by Austin.
Church ball game later. Lost by a point cuz you can call your own fouls so the other team called a foul on us and said it was shooting even though it wasn't a foul and if it was it definitely wasn't shooting. So that was bogus but oh well it was still fun and I just realized I've written more about bball today than my run so that's great lol
| |
| | Today has flat out sucked. Nice to get a good run in before training. Fox Hollow golf course, 6:23 avg pace
| |
| | Mile warmup. Couple more miles, strides, drills. 2X1600 in 5:10, 5:05 with 2 min rest. 3 mile tempo, 5:28 avg pace. 2 sets of 150, 100, 50: 20, 13, 6, 20, 13, 6. Cool down to 11
| |
| | First day of outdoor. Warmup, drills, stretches, sprinting and stuff with the team. That took awhile so coach said I could just start in my run while everybody else did a 10 min team run. Did a loop on the trail by Luke's house then went and did some of the trails by north lake park. Went back and did a couple laps of speed changes in the last mile. 11 miles, 6:15 average pace. New shoes came today.
Altra Repetition Miles: 12.00 |
| |
| | Mile warmup. Drills then 2 miles easy. 1600 in 4:35, 2 min rest, 1600 in 4:45, 5 min rest, 400 in 59, 2 min rest, 400 in 60, 4 min rest, 800 in 2:22. Mile cool down
5 more easy at night, thanksgiving point loop, 6:50 average. Tried out the new sketcher go run forzas and I like them. Probably won't use them for speed tho
Triumph ISO Miles: 8.00 | Forza Miles: 5.00 |

Altra Repetition Miles: 10.00 |

| | Mile warmup. Frontage road to bluffdale and back. 6:42 average pace
Easy bike ride with my mom after my run. Went on the JRT, planned on 30 but we only got 18 before I got a flat and we didn't have the stuff to fix it so we had to call someone. Biking to Oklahoma in June, 1150 miles in 2 weeks
Upper body lifting at night
| |
| | Mile warmup. Drills then half mile easy, strides. 4 sets of 600, 400, 200 with 200 float in between each, 4 min between sets. 600s were 1:48-1:52, 400s were 68-69 (first one was 74), 200s were 32-33. Then 2X150 both in 20, 2X100 both in 13. Cool down to 7.
5 more at night. Sports complex loop, 6:48 avg pace. Felt awful
Triumph ISO Miles: 8.00 | Forza Miles: 5.00 |
| |
| | Early morning lifting
Mile warmup, drills, stretches. Coach told me it's a down week so I just did an easy 6. Killers, pit, 6:43 average
Altra Repetition Miles: 7.00 |
| | Drove to Orem for my drug test, ran from there. Down state st, onto Provo river parkway and back, 6:10 average
| |
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretches. Half mile including strides. Workout was 4X800 at goal 2 mile pace with equal rest. Hit 2:15, 2:16, 2:15, 2:15. 3.5 mile cool down.
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretching. To the pit with Luke. He fell back after a little bit but that's ok cuz he killed the workout yesterday, love that kid. Around the pit for a while then back to the high school. 6:38 average pace
Altra Repetition Miles: 7.00 |
| |
| | 40 mile bike with mom, on the JRT to South Jordan. We switched bikes a lot so my mom could keep up better, which was fine but I'm glad she's taking her road bike when we ride to Oklahoma. Pretty easy pace except for the last couple miles cuz I was determined not to let this competitive biker dude gap me. Nice ride, lots of hills and people along the trail.
Evening run. Mile warmup then rail trail, MCT, JRT loop with a mile on the golf course. Got a little excited on the rolling hills of the course so that mile was a 5:50. Saw a little kid on the rail trail and he was so surprised that I was running "by yourself?!?!" Kinda laughed at that cuz I've gotten so used to running by myself it's not even funny. Then saw this girl sitting on the trail painting. I looked and she was painting the mountains and it was way cool looking. Noticed she goes to my school so that was a little awkward. Then on the JRT I was going under 2100 N and I saw this guy biking with his kids. All of sudden I hear the dad shout "get out of the road! Get out of the road right now!" I couldn't see what happened but I really hope the kid didn't get hit. Anyways, nice run and my legs didn't feel really tired from the bike so that was good. 6:13 average
| |
| | Mile warmup, stretches, drills. Half mile and strides then workout. 1600 in 5:02, 2 min rest, 1600 in 4:58. 4 min rest then 4X300 with 90 sec rest. Splits for those were 47, 46, 45, 43. Cool down was 7.5 miles, 6:30 average pace, airport Lehi dip center st loop with a couple strides near the end
| |
| | Half mile warmup, drills, stretches, strides, another half mile warmup. A lot of crap on my mind today so I really had to focus on controlling the pace. Went up center st, did a loop on the trail, back down to the school, 6:40 average pace. Shoutout to the skyridge peeps outside biking, they work harder than half the runners out there. Also shoutout to Tyson and lil nug cuz I saw them too.
| |
| | Dual meet vs PG today. Mile warmup, drills. Another mile warmup with Jared from PG then 4 miles easy. Saw these three kids walking down the middle of the road and one of them pulled out a knife. When I passed them again one asked me what my name was so that was a little sketch. Was supposed to pace Brecken under 5 for the mile but I got back and they had combined the boys and girls instead of doing girls then boys so I missed it. Felt pretty bad about that cuz he didn't go under, idk how much I would've helped tho. Did another mile with Luke before the 2 mile then we did some drills and strides. Plan was to pace him for 11:15-11:30. First mile was perfect (5:45) and he was doing awesome. Started winding it up after that and he followed like a baby chick following its mom. He had a great kick and we ended up hitting 11:07, a minute 2 mile PR and about a 10 sec mile PR the second mile. So proud of my bro, he still had a lot in the tank and he's just a freshman. Great things to come from him in the next couple years. Did another mile then did a mile at 5:00 pace since that was what I was supposed to pace at. Hit 4:58, did 3 more and called it a day.
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretches, strides. 1.25 easy to the upper cemetery then did 8 hill repeats on airport, 6 up, 2 down. Rest was 90 sec or jog down the hill. Distance was .21, splits were 72, 72, 52 (down), 74, 73, 52 (down), 72, 74. Cool down was 8.75 miles, north lake park loop, 6:32 average pace.

Alpha (0.994 Miles) 00:04:19, Place overall: 2, Place in age division: 2 | | 3 mile warmup, only counting 2. Coach wanted me to hit the 800 at 2:06. First 400 was 61, 800 was 2:06-7. Tried to hold on after that but slowed quite a bit. Led the whole race but got passed by Zack in the last 200. Shout out to him for running a hecka smart race. Cool down was 4 miles, to the police shooting range and onto the trail and back

| |
| | Not a good day. Mile warmup, drills, stretching. Hit up airport, smiths dip and the trails down there, killers. 9 miles, average pace was 6:12, mile 8 was 5:35.
| |
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretching. Another mile then 2 mile tempo, went 4:55, 5:00 for 9:55. 2 min rest then 4X300 with 2 min rest, hit 50, 47, 48, 49. Then 3X150 with 90 sec rest, split 22, 22, 23. 2 mile cool down.
| |
| | Mile warmup, drills. On the trail to the mouth of the canyon, up the canyon for a couple miles then back. 7 miles, 6:35 average pace.
Mile easy, couple strides. Paced Luke and Brecken's 2 mile, 5:35ish pace for 2000m. Then did the 3rd leg of our 4X400, split a 55.
| |
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretching. 10 min easy then fartlek: 8 min on, 4 min distance, 5 min on, 2:30 distance, 2 min on, 1 min distance then back up. Pace for the 8 min pushes was 5:02-5:05, then 4:53-5:00 for the 5 min pushes, and 4:40-4:53 for the 2 min pushes. Good effort in the rain and wind today. A 16:20 5K somewhere in the fartlek, 5:42 average pace for the 11 miles.
| | Went to maple mountain to watch the mountain valley invite. Mile warmup then another mile. The NAU coach wanted me to call him at 5:30 so I went away from the highway a little so I could hear. Had a good chat, excited to have them talk to me. Finished up mileage in the canyon then back but miscalculated and went 2 over. Did a couple 400s and a 200 at the end of my run. Shoutout to everyone who raced and killed it. Also shoutout to Gan for the quote of the day, "You run pretty fast for a fat kid" lol
| |
| | Got to the meet and saw they still had the hurdles up for the 100 and 110. Nothing was being run and they ended up canceling the meet because the rain was messing with the timing system. Called coach and we decided to still race, did the 3200 since that was the original plan. Tried to get Patch to do it with me but his parents were there so he had to go. Mile warmup then another half mile. Went out a little fast, came through 800 in 2:14 and the mile in 4:39. Didn't get any splits after that. Ended up getting 9:28, not happy with it but it was solo in the pouring rain and freezing cold so I know I can go faster. Cool down was 1.5. Gonna do more tonight.
Woke up with stomach problems and they've gotten worse throughout the day so no night run. I'll put in some more miles next week.
| | Rainy day. Mile warmup then another mile easy. Drills then 2X400m accelerations in 64, 64. Workout was 5X1000, alternating 200 at mile pace, 200 at 10 seconds slower, 2 min rest in between each 1000. Split 30, 45, 32, 43, 33 for 3:03, then 32, 46, 32, 46, 33 for 3:09, then 32, 45, 33, 45, 33 for 3:08, then 31, 47, 33, 45, 33 for 3:09. At this point I was really struggling and I was tired of hitting 33s so I told myself if I hit a 33 on the last 1000, I'd have to do another 1000. I really didn't want to do another one so I pulled it together and hit 31, 45, 32, 45, 31 for 3:04. Rough workout, my stomach felt awful. 3 mile cool down inside on the treadmill cuz I didn't wanna get hypothermia.
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretches. Ran up center street and back on 1200 E. Threw in 3 strides, focusing on turnover. The only one I timed was a 400 in 62. 7 miles, 6:20 average pace.
After the run coach told me and Luke to do push-ups, sit-ups and pull-ups for an hour. Luke had to leave after 40 so I was on my own for the last 20 min. Did 150 push-ups, 125 sit-ups, and 50 pull-ups.

| | Mile warmup. Drills, stretches, another mile, more drills. 5X600, 5X400, 5X200 at 2 mile, mile, 800 pace with 90 sec rest in between everything. Splits were 1:46, 1:45, 1:44, 1:44, 1:43 for the 600s. 63, 63, 64, 65, 64 for the 400s. 30, 30, 30, 29, 29 for the 200s. Mile and a quarter cool down. Lunge workout in the gym after. Then went to talk to Janice about my back cuz it's been hurting, I think from raking the long jump pit yesterday. She gave me some stretches to do so hopefully those help.
| |
| | 3 and a half in the morning. Went down to the farms and looped back on 2100, 6:55 avg pace.
Mile warmup, stretches, drills, strides. 6 easy with Luke and Coach, 6:50 average. Went on the trail but started at the not paved way cooler/sketchier part. Probably the funnest run of the season for me. Strides after. Back is still tight but I think it's better than yesterday.

Altra Repetition Miles: 4.00 | Forza Miles: 8.00 |
| | Mile warmup then another mile. Raced the 1600, got 4th in 4:20. Cool down was 4.5 miles. Warmed up a mile for the medley. Ran the 800, got a 2:00, team got 3:43, we missed qualifying by a second. Mad at myself for sucking so I ran to mountain view to do a post race workout. 7X400 with 90 sec rest. Splits were 67, 64, 64, 62, 63, 65, 61. Ran back to uvu.
| |
| | Mile warmup. Drills, stretches. 2 mile tempo, 4:59, 4:59 for 9:58. Then 8X400 with 90 sec rest. 63, 62, 63, 65, 65, 67, 66, 66. Then 4X200, 30, 29, 29, 27. Felt awful, started cramping around the 5th 400 and I haven't recovered enough from Saturday. One of those times when running really just sucks. 1.5 mile cool down.
Biked 20 miles with my mom, JRT to Saratoga and back, very windy
To the golf course, a couple barefoot on the grass, then back. 5 miles, 5:55 average. Last 2 were 5:40 and 5:25

| | Mile warmup. Easy 5 miles with Luke and some skyridge peeps on their warmup and cool down. Drove to skyridge after for abs, hips, and rolling out.
Evening run. Went on the deer trail behind the golf course, a lot of construction since the last time I was there. I think they'll be building soon which makes me kinda sad/mad. Looped back on the JRT. Stomach felt horrible, but other than that I felt smooth. 5 miles, 6:35 average pace.
Triumph ISO Miles: 5.00 | Forza Miles: 6.00 |
| | Drove to Big Bear Lake in California, about 7000 ft elevation. Ran on the highway around the lake, breathtaking scenery. 10 min easy, 40 min tempo, 12ish min cool down. Really hilly so that didn't help my already tight calves. Felt surprisingly good tho for being in the car all day. 10.5 miles, 5:53 average pace, average pace for the tempo was around 5:35
| |
| | Went to Huntington Beach, did my run on the trail along the beach. 7 miles, 6:35 average pace.
| | Mile warmup, drills. Found this canal trail so I ran on that for a little, would be perfect for intervals but I'm running a race or something tomorrow. After that just ran around the streets of Cypress. Met the missionaries in the Long Beach mission which is where my brother will be going in May. One of them is from Springville and he's Kaity's cousin so that was crazy. Good run, 4 miles, 6:48 average pace.
Was going to do another run but I didn't get around to it. More rest for tomorrow I guess

Arcadia Seeded (1.988 Miles) 00:08:58, Place in age division: 1 | | 2 mile shakeout with some strides near the end. Only counting one mile cuz the first one was slow.
Warmed up 2 miles with Grant and some of the other guys. It was nice to chill with them before the race cuz it helped with the nerves. Did some drills and got ready to go. Stomach wasn't feeling great. Gun went off and I got out and settled in the middle. There was 40 runners in our heat so it got a little sketchy. Didn't want to get tangled up so I let everyone pass and ended up dead last. First lap was a 64 then second was a 72. Started to move up at the end of the third lap and surged to near the front to avoid trouble in the middle. Took the lead somewhere in the 5th lap. Led for a little while then got passed with 800 to go. Stuck with him and barely outkicked him in the last 100. Glad I was able to push through mentally and not let my stomach take me out of it. Still don't know what to do with it. Got my time and place goals so I was excited about that. 4 mile cool down with Grant and Hayden Cooper. Felt like I was going to die. Got back and watched the invite 3200, shoutout to Casey for going 8:44
| |
| | Mile warmup, drills, another half mile. Workout was 1200, 1600, 1000, 1600, 800, 1600, 400 all with 3 min rest. Splits were 3:30, 4:48, 2:54, 4:50, 2:20, 4:48, 63. Calves are still tight but other than that it was great. 1.5 mile cool down.

Utah County (1.988 Miles) 00:09:16, Place overall: 3, Place in age division: 3 | | 2 mile shakeout during lunch with a couple pickups near the end.
1.5 mile warmup, drills, strides. Settled in a little back from Casey, McKay, and Aiden so I didn't go out in faster than 4:40. Mile was around 4:42, just tried to close the gap after that. Got McKay in the last 100 but didn't have enough room to get Aiden. Qualified for state and went under 9:20 so that was good. Happy with it sense I've been feeling a little off since Wednesday. Cooled down 2 miles with a good group of guys.
| |
| | Reffed 3 soccer games. Biked 20 miles with my mom, did mountain view corridor. Lots of wind, lots of hills, and lots of dead bunnies. Went swimming after that, shoutout to Lil Nug for beating me in a race haha

Went a little fast, maybe because I knew I had to hurry if I wanted to make it to the dentist on time. Splits were 2:52, 2:15, 2:16, 1:40, 1:40, 65, 31, 14. Didn't feel good at all but I didn't die either so that's good I guess. 2 mile cool down.

Riverton duel (0.994 Miles) 00:04:20, Place overall: 1, Place in age division: 1 | | 2 mile warmup, drills, strides. First lap was a 62 then the splits were all over the place. Don't know why I ran 4:16 indoor then 3-4 seconds slower 3 times outdoor. Having a cold or racing solo arent good excuses either so I guess I just gotta put some more work in. 10 min rest then 3 mile tempo with the last 600 at mile pace. Did it on a dirt canal trail. Splits were 5:30, 5:25, 5:07. Another mile after
| |
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretches. Did a 400 speed walking race, got third behind coach and Mason but I'll be back. Recovery run with coach, went on the trails by Luke's house then hopped a fence onto a dirt farm trail that was on coach's brother-in-law's property. Started hailing and the wind picked up so that was fun. Stomach felt horrendous today. 7 miles, 6:50 average pace.
Reffed 2 soccer games
Lots of pushups at night
| |
| | Drove to dry creek. Mile warmup, workout was 8X800 at 5K pace with kick uphill for the last 200. Ended up being 6X800 at garbage pace. Splits were 2:37, 2:38, 2:44, 2:46, 2:48, 2:54, then coach pulled me. Felt something was wrong on the second one. Don't know what to think, felt drained today. If I eat I get stomach problems, if I don't eat enough I die which I think is what was the issue today but who knows. 1.5 cool down then had to go get ready for my date to the jazz game. Shout out to Carolyn for going with me, it was awesome thanks to her :)

Pace felt really good until the last 2 miles, those ones made me work. Happy with this effort after yesterday. Coach said this is my last hard week of the season so I thought I'd make it count. Farthest I've ever ran at one time. Good day of training and I don't feel totally dead so I'm excited about where I'm at right now. Also it's a good time to retire my triumphs.

BYU (1.988 Miles) 00:09:04, Place overall: 1, Place in age division: 1 | | 2 mile warmup with Mike, Logan, and coach. Got out ok but kept it conservative for the first mile, around 4:35. Kept moving up each lap until I was in the top group chasing Casey. He came back to us so there was about 7 of us with a lap to go. Realized I could get it so I went for it with about 200 to go. Barely pulled it off, don't know how but I feel so blessed. Cool down with a huge group to the Provo river trail, iced in the river. Then me, Gill, Collin, and Chuck finished, hit up lovers lane trail it was awesome. Got 6 miles cool down.

Did Highland elementary loop, 6.5 miles, 6:30 average. 4X200 after, full recovery in between each. Went 27, 26 high, 27, 26 high. Felt good to get some speed. |
| | Mile warmup, drills, stretching. Distance run with Luke, did center st loop. 5.75 miles, 7:05 average pace. Then 150, 100, 100 strides. Felt awful today, probably because I had a lot of gluten at the team dinner last night. Ice bath at the creek after, on the way back this lady pulled up next to me in the parking lot and got mad at me for "tailgating" her.

Region 4 Medley (0.497 Miles) 00:01:58 | | 3 mile shakeout, 6:20 pace. Went on the canal trail. Saw some geese, one of them spread its wings and hissed at me so I did a quick stride to get outa there. 2 mile warmup for the medley. Got the baton in 4th and pushed. Zack passed me and I kinda went with him, ended up passing 2 guys in the last 100 to get third. Split a 1:58 low. |
| | Got up early to go trail running with Brecken. Went to west canyon but we didn't get to the best part cuz we started from the road turnoff not the trail turnoff. Really fun run, had some good convos. 7 flat average, I was feeling really good so the last 400 I left Brecken and ran a 60. Oops. Last mile was 5:55
| | Mile warmup. 5 easy, extended rail trail, 6:30 average. Stomach felt awful. Legs felt flat so I did 2 quick 200s to get them going. Hit 25 high and 26 high. First time ever breaking 26 for a 200 so that was great.

| | Mile warmup. Drills, strides. Easy distance run with Luke, just hit up some neighborhoods near the high school. Didn't wear a watch today but Luke did so we got 6. Really nice run but for some reason my hamstrings are tight.
Shoutout to Luke for almost getting eaten by a little dog and shoutout to the old lady who yelled "Go Lehi!" when we ran past.
| | Drills, stretching, strides. Easy run with Luke, Anna, Michael, and Brecken. Did pit loop and cemetery grass loop. 2 strides mixed in one trying see how high mph we could get on the police radar and then one racing Luke to the wheel. No watch, got 5. Hammys still tight.

State (0.994 Miles) 00:04:15, Place overall: 10, Place in age division: 6 | | Warmup with Justin, indoor track. Gun went off and I got out horrible so I had to move up in lane 2 and 3 for the first 800, around 2:10 so a little slow. The leaders went 60-61 the third lap and that was hard for me to match, went 62 and then 62. Fought hard but I just don't have the mile speed right now to contend with the leaders. Got 6th in 5A and 10th overall, time was a 4:15. I'm happy about it cuz I placed and broke our school record but I would've liked a 4:12 or 4:13. Cooled down 4 miles really easy with Lil Nug, that was nice.
4 mile easy bike ride with my mom to loosen up the legs. Went to the farms and back
| |
| Race: |
State (1.988 Miles) 00:09:08 | | Mile warmup. Led for 7 laps, took 4th, 9:08. Had to end off the season right so I went to the indoor track and did 5X3 min hard with 2 min distance pace in between. Went on a quality hike with Mo after up Provo canyon

| | Decided this will be my last blog post for a while. I'm trying something different for xc season so we'll see how it goes. I'm on break this week then I'm biking to Oklahoma starting June 1 so my running will be limited for 2 weeks. I'll start actually training for cross right after that, it's gonna be lit.
Got up early and biked to the canyon. Went up the the gate where alpine loop is closed until the summer. It was amazing except my hands and feet almost fell off, glad I wore a jacket. Don't know how far or what pace cuz I didn't track it but I went for almost 3 hours so at least 35 miles. Going scootering with Mo later.
Hope you all have sick xc seasons or missions or marathons or race walks or whatever you're doing. I'll probably be back at some point, don't miss me too much haha just kidding who even reads my blog? Peace out homies
| |
| | Someone requested I do an update on my trip and stuff. Biked a little over halfway to Oklahoma to visit my brother, 625 miles in 11 days. It was exhausting and hot but really fun. Cross country is in full swing and I've never been more pumped in my life. Raced the freedom 10k today, got second. Shoulda won it but I'm happy. Good job to everyone who raced, happy fourth to you all.

| | Shoutout to the skyridge boys and gill cuz they're pretty cool and I saw them today. Pretty much the highlight of my boring long run. 11 miles, 6:20 average
| |
| | Long run with Collin on the Jordan river trail. Planned on going 12 but we went 13 to see the hot pots which were rad. Had some really good conversations, it was awesome. Legs felt a little tired but not too bad, did 2X30 sec surges on the way back. Collin is such a homie and he's gonna be hecka fast in college. Nice to have someone to run with for a whole run, especially this kid.

| | Got back from my family reunion in northern Idaho. Lots of hilly and pretty forest runs. Hit 62 miles last week, 70 if you count mile warmups. Running is really great, I feel amazing and I get to run in some pretty amazing places. I'm in Price right now at cross country camp with my awesome team and Westlake and Orem. Did a nice 8 mile trail run, went through some gnarly puddles/ponds. Uphill trail run tomorrow, going for the camp record so we'll see how that goes. Then after camp I'm headed to Yosemite with my dad and maybe my bro Luke. I'm sure there will be some cool runs there. Well this has been a lot longer than I thought it would be so I'm going to be done typing now. Y'all are good people

| | Xc camp was a success. 3 hard workouts/races, 3 wins and 3 course records. Doesn't really mean a whole lot tho, I'm in great shape right now but there's a long season ahead. Gotta stay healthy and hungry. Really a great week of training, ended with a downhill 5K today. Got 14:01, 4:30 mile pace. It was great to have Aiden there to race with for 2 miles. The downhill was fast and fun but it hurt. Lots of hills this week, this is what I live for. After tomorrow I'll hit 65-70 miles for this week. I love running
| | Good down week, 53 miles. Went to Yosemite NP and hiked half dome, 16ish miles with 4800 ft elevation gain. Some nice hilly runs, one in a huge thunderstorm that I felt lucky to live through. Went trail running with Collin, Gill, and Chuck today. Did corner canyon trails, planned on 10 but hit 12. Hilly run, over 1500 ft gained and lost, miles ranged from 5:55 to 9:45, average was around 7:30. Shoutout to those guys, they're real homies
| | Shoutout to Skyridge for letting me come to a day of camp with them on Monday. Did buffalo ranch in park city, a dirt road with rolling hills. Nice country feel, I liked it. Had a good group of guys for 10 miles including my boy Dallin. Did the last 4 of my long run on this cool golf course. Half marathon in 1:25, last mile was 5:45. Then I had to speak in front of their whole team lol it wasn't horrible but definitely wasn't prepared for that. Anyways, did mile repeats yesterday, 6 with 60-90 sec rest. First 3 were sub 5 then I died on the fourth one and got 5:13. Felt exactly like footlocker so that sucked. Not too worried tho, talked to coach about what I need to do better. Nice recovery today with some barefoot grass miles, on track for 70 miles this week. Loving it. 7-8 mile negative split tempo tomorrow.
| |
| | First official visit, USU. Ran with the team on these sick trails up Logan Canyon. Talked to some of the guys about missions and academics and stuff. 11 miles, 6:45 avg pace. Saw Gan, Guppy, Jackie, and Hayden so that was awesome!

| | Raced at soldier hollow!! Really hilly course, one of my favorites. Legs felt pretty dead from strength on Tuesday and hills on Thursday but I managed. I'm also getting sick but it didn't really affect my race. Shoutout to Anna Martin for winning the girls varsity race. Excited to go on a visit to BYU next week with Aiden Troutner and this super fast dude from Ohio. Also pretty stoked to race on the golf course next Saturday.

Region (3 Miles) 00:14:32 | | Region today at Scera Park. 2 mile warmup. Got out hard and led from the gun. Splits were 4:48, 4:55, 4:48. Felt sick to my stomach and got blisters on the bottoms of my feet so that was fun. Congrats to my teammates Anna and Abby for getting second and fourth and qualifying for state! Didn't do a cool down cuz of awards and then I went to the BYU football game. So now I have to do 13 tomorrow haha

4A State XC (3 Miles) 00:14:59 | | 1.5 mile shakeout, 1.5 mile warmup. Got out hard the first 2 miles, Caleb was there for 1. After 2 I started to feel weak and fell off the pace, finished in 14:59. Kinda disappointed cuz I ran 14:52 last year but oh well. Did some rage miles after, 5:35 and 5:03. The 5:03 was actually faster than my last mile of the race so that's not good. I need to refocus a little but I'll be ready for NXR. Happy to finally reach my goal of being a state champion even though I ran the 3rd fastest time of the day. Excited to get in some races with crazy good competition. Headed to Flagstaff this weekend to visit NAU. Oh and shout out to Anna for getting second and Abby for killing it
| |
| | Visit at Northern Arizona in Flagstaff. 6 miles east with THE Luis Grijalva and the other recruit from New Mexico. There are some amazing trails here, they're everywhere too
| | 4 mile warmup with the team on this trail called Arizona. 6 mile tempo: 3X2 mile loops around Buffalo Park. Pretty flat trail with a couple hills near the end of the loop. Felt great, averaged 5:35. 2 mile cool down. Super nice area and the altitude isn't as bad as I thought it would be, I can't really tell the difference.
| | Weber st visit. Ran these really cool trails with the team, mostly up for the first half and down for the second. Climbed over 900 feet, average just under 7:00. 6 barefoot strides on the turf after. Weber state is a really cool team.
| | Got up and ran from the hotel before breakfast. Tried to find this state park but instead I found the paved trail that the team sometimes runs on called Centennial. Nice morning, pretty cold tho. 6:07 avg pace
| |
| | Deer creek trail today, perfect weather and a perfect trail, 6:20 average pace. Excited to say that I committed to NAU today, I'm so pumped. Grateful for this new opportunity and next step in life. I'm confident I'll be able to accomplish my goals there and grow as a person and an athlete. Thank you to all of my friends who have helped me get to this point, especially the ones on this blog

| | Morning run in St George. Didn’t plan on going very long but I love running in St George so I did a little more. Lots of hills, one long killer one that was an 8-10% grade. Did a progression run, starting with a 7:15 and ending with a 5:20. 6:10 average pace for 12 and a half. Shout to NAU for winning regionals yesterday!
| |
| | Spanish Fork river trail. Mile warmup and drills with Luke. 8 miles at 6:45 average. Legs are wrecked from downhill workout yesterday. Hopped in the river to ice after, it was freezing
| |
| | Achilles issues, went to physical therapy, did 15 minutes on the bike there. Did another 14 miles biking after I got home. Going to run tomorrow and see how it feels.
| | Distance with 6 strides. 4 miles, 5:57 average
| | Portland, Oregon. 4 miles from Nike HQ. Went on these trails through the forest then on the famous Michael Johnson Track surrounded by trees. Achilles felt good, I love KT tape and compression socks. Met Galen Rupp, got a pic with him, got lots of free gear so I’d say it was a great day.
| | Ran along the course and did some strides after. The course is muddy but it should be perfect racing weather, especially if it’s raining

NXN (3.107 Miles) 00:15:41, Place overall: 25 | | Definitely not how I planned it to turn out. Got a horrible start cuz I was on the second line and someone fell in front of me right after the gun. Got swallowed by the pack and tried to avoid the piles of people falling down but finally tripped over somebody and went down. Got up and started working up, 70th something place at the mile. Worked into the 20s with a mile to go, didn’t get past there. It took a lot to try and avoid panicking and focus on moving, moving, moving. And of course I felt sick to my stomach, I think due to prerace nerves or midrace anxiety. I’m pretty sure that covers all the excuses haha. Thinking back on it, I don’t know how much more I could’ve done in my situation. I maybe could’ve been more aggressive after I fell but who knows how much more energy that would’ve taken from the last mile. Really disappointed considering I had higher expectations for myself at nationals. My last high school cross country race should’ve been one of my best, but I guess everyone can’t have a great race. Time to learn, take a break, and move on to track.
