Short-Term Running Goals: Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal. It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :) I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!
Long-Term Running Goals:
Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.
Run for the rest of my life!
Personal: 4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!
Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free! I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front. After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM. Favorite Blogs: |

| | How can you be more sore from a 1/2 than a full? Quads feeling achy this morning so I didn't want to push it...I do have to try and keep up with the BBK's tomorrow! Hit the gym for step class and realized I have NO energy, so it's good I didn't run. Afterward spent 1/2 hr hitting the IT strengthening and balancing exercises from the PT. I know that lack of hip stability is my ITB problem, so that will be my focus until TOU full. I want a good, strong race. I'll finish off the day with volleyball...starting a league with my friend! 2 games every Monday, best x-training EVER! :)

More to come in a bit, but I want to get this posted quickly. BBK beat down....3 miles warm-up, 2 mile tempo, 6 yasso 800's (all under 3:42) with equal amount of recovery (okay, not so good on equal amt of time!), 1 lap cool-down. Personal trainer beat down...legs, legs, quads, legs and a little more legs. Good thing I don't need them the rest of the week :) Spin the legs out on the bike for 5 miles...ahhh, nap? AP for the run: 8:21 - warm-up: 9:08, 8:33, 8:50 tempo: 7:54, 7:23 800's: 1- 3:42 (rest: 3:13) 2- 3:42 (2:11) 3- 3:41(1:41 + drink) 4- 3:39 (2:09 +drink) 5- 3:39 (2:22 +drink) 6- 3:38 then cool down
I'm happy with my tempo run and especially that my yasso's sped up. Since I was feeling crappy at the start (sore legs from yesterdays workout), I have confidence that I can finish a marathon in a BQ....IF my ITB's will cooperate! No nap and hoping I can walk in the morning...a good SLOW recovery run will be in the cards if I can wake up :)

| | SO SORE...stairs still scare me :) So, I slept - sleep recovery is important for muscle repair, right? Kick-boxing with only 5000 push ups and lunges and squats.... 5K on the TM - sheer torture, at 10mm I was barely hanging on the back...finished it in just under 29 minutes (obviously sped up, a little. Actually was able to do 7:30 for the last .10) Working on walking and staying active/stretching today...more Butt kicking tomorrow!

Another BBK day. It was an early one today, we started at 5:00 and did a 5K every 30 minutes around the SJordan 5K loop. Got there a little late, because I knew I'd be alone in the back and it would be so dark I needed my reflector and I couldn't find it. Met Kelli, Scott and Becca there a little late too, so we headed off in the opposite direction as the crowd to meet them then turn and run back...did 2.25 (it was my first 2.0 on the garmin...took too long to locate satellites). Painful, but about mile 6 I started feeling okay and was able to push a little. I was happy to see a sub 8 mile. The last loop was easy/recovery, I was pleased to see a descent AP for the run...I had already decided that anything under 9:30 would please me today! Thanks Kelli for being my misery's company - I LOVED it :) AP: 8:35 splits: 8:47, 8:55, 8:48, 8:44, 8:12, 8:27, 8:03, 7:27, 9:20, 8:49, 8:35, 9:04 Then went to the gym for yoga and another training session. Arms, although weaker, always seem easier than legs - I think its because I'm not running 12 miles on my arms beforehand :) It was a good session and I'm actually feeling better today than I have the past couple, I guess I ran all that lactic acid outta me!

| | ahhhh...Friday. I'd much rather have sore arms than legs! Not nearly as distracting as I try to work out. Nice and easy day...1 hr on the upright bike, variable resistance to 8 - total 17 miles Had to use the rest of the 30 min of daycare time...so I reluctantly hit the TM for another 5K - finished in 26 min 6 seconds...not too bad, I kept a steady 8:30 for the first 2.6 then went to 7:30 then pushed the last .13 trying to get in under 26....SO close, if the course was measured wrong I may have gotten in at 26 min :)

| | The Good, The Bad and The Ugly THE GOOD: Finally got to meet Brent and Sylvie, truly they were what I needed to get through, and Sylvie's mint was MAGIC! The other good, was I finished. I was being a pansy about having to run alone (I knew all the BBKer's would leave me in the dust). My mental toughness increased ten fold today, it's been a long time since I've done a long run alone. Thank goodness for Michelle who toughed out the first 12 with me! THE BAD: I wanted to try to keep the pace 8:30-8:40, a good long run pace and I knew the group would help keep me there. However, about mile 9-10 I'd had it! I've NEVER had stomach issues before, but I was going to throw up! I stopped to get a drink and try to get the tummy to subside; however, as soon as I started again it did too. I had to stop again and walk about 11, but then I decided come heck or high water I was going to 12 (the park where the water fountain was anyway). Poor Michelle kept having to stop and wait for my slow butt. Thanks for being so patient and supportive!! I got to the park with the water fountain.... THE UGLY: Ever watched Seinfeld? They have a 'record' of how long it's been since you've thrown up? Yeah, well mine WAS over 2 years. I couldn't hold it off any longer - it was all just stomach acid which, if you know, feels lovely in your mouth :) I went to the bathroom and rinsed and cleaned up then headed back down. I knew I had less than 2 to get to the car....I can do that in my sleep, right? shortly after that I ran into Brent and Sylvie, her mint saved me! I'm so serious, just getting the taste and thought out of my head really helped push me along. Got to the car at 14.1 and I knew I couldn't wimp out, I've never wimped out before! C'mon Rachel, you can do it, just 2 more - then you're done (2 out, then after you turn around you're practically done, just back to the car!). Took a few minutes to cool down and re-fuel with gatorade and water, then walked about .2 to let it all settle. I finished going 2 miles south to 90th, then turned around. With the wind at my back and knowing I was just about done, I was starting to feel better. Even contemplated doing 20, just one more. I talked my self out of it by wanting to leave a little in the tank for Onion Days Monday, I want to race it. So, all in all NOW it seems like an okay run - always good to end on a good note. I guess I could say I wimped out, because I didn't do the full 20, but with everything I went through today I'm pleased with 18, and although not I'm not happy with it, I'm satisfied with the pace. Now, it's all downhill to TOU.....
AP: 8:55 splits: 9:53, 8:51, 8:41, 8:39, 8:41, 8:20, 8:57, 8:21, 8:29, 8:51, 8:52 (let the dying begin) 9:12, 9:10, 8:57, 9:43 (YIKES!), 9:26, 8:49, 8:42. really bummed about the 9's, especially the 9:43, but it was right after I got my water and gatorade in, so I guess I'll chalk it up to a full belly - I did recover some the last couple!
