Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

What a crazy night! HUGE fire out here, we were about 1/2 mile away from the evacuation line and watched the fire build and creep closer all night. Thankfully, once it hit the house line area the firefighters were right on things and it looks like VERY few homes were damaged, last night I would've sworn it was more than a dozen!!

After staying up late last night (1:30AM) listening to the TV coverage and reading internet update and peeking out the window I went to bed figuring I'd either skip the run, do it at the gym or do it at home.

Woke up with school canceled, the fire looking TONS better, and not being able to get back into the neighborhood if you left. So, hubby worked from home and I spent a couple more hours on the computer on FB and checking updates.

Finally around 11:00 went out for a run to survey damage. Our neighborhood back roads turn into dirt roads and connect to the canyon road, so I decided to go up to the best bluff and check things out. Especially since all my other routes went through evac areas. The canyon we ran up Saturday actually looks nearly untouched! The cove neighborhood looks good and the fire line further than I thought from the homes. Only one area further East was still being sprayed by a fire truck with just a bit of smoke coming out. Looks SO much better than I even imagined last night, I thought for sure that I'd wake up to horrible carnage. I'm pleasantly surprised and grateful!

So, my 4 mile loop included about 1/2 mile of trail running, but I'm not complaining. It was nice and slow, because I was doing more gawking than running (and I haven't eaten yet this morning!). I'd look up and realize I was in the middle of the street...oops! Good thing it's eerily quiet with no school, cars and just the buzz of helicopters overhead.

Honestly, it was really nice to get out and de-stress a little bit. I needed it! Now, to get my head back to normal life and get normal Monday stuff done and pull myself away from the computer!

Sounds like it was pretty intense last night. Glad nothing happened to your house.

I'm so glad your home & you & your little ones are safe.

Was the air horrid to run in with all the smoke?

From Kori on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 15:10:52 from 174.23.191.198

Glad to hear you are okay and your home was spared. I'm sure the jog was a WONDERFUL de-stress after last night! :)

Dale, thanks! I am too.

QP, when we woke up and went outside the air out there was better than inside! The wind did a good job of clearing it all out and we have windows open to get the campfire stink out now. So, it is actually pretty darn good.

Kori, it was very nice! Thanks for the support!!

Well, glad things are okay. What a crazy night!

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 15:42:37 from 71.219.65.246

I was thinking the same thing---it was eerily quiet considering all of the kids are out of school! I saw maybe 3 kids!!!

I was amazed at where the fir line was. I really thought it would be way closer to you and the canyon from what you could see last night. SO THANKFUL that they got it under control before it took out the entire southern end of Herriman! Looking at the line where the fire ended and how close it was to houses was just freaky!!!

Have a good Monday. i am going to go shower and degrease my hair. Smoke does something weird to hair.

Lily, thanks - it was crazy!

Kelli, I walked in our bathroom and closet and it still smells like a fire. I don't want to wash all my clothes, so I may smell like a fire for the next couple weeks until I can wear and wash all my clothes! I was surprised the canyon was still nice, it looked SO much worse last night!! Good luck with your hair :)

OH---and i would not leave!!! if you do, it will take a long time to get back in to your part of Herriman. They make everyone turn right onto 5600 West, then get questioned by a cop before they let you up 13400. It might take a while so just stay home!!!

From RAD on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 15:49:50 from 67.172.229.125

ugghhh...we got our mortgage papers from UPS today and have to get to a notary. Maybe the CU this side of 5600W is open and has one. Thanks for the heads up - I really want to go get something to eat, but I'll deal with what I've got at home.

I was thinking about you guys last night - SO SO scary! Hooray for being safe!

Questions (since you are my stress fracture PRO!!): I'm getting closer to being able to run 10 minutes consistently, how were you suppose to increase your mileage after that?

From Maurine/Miles on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 16:20:16 from 63.255.172.2

So glad you are all safe and just stinky. Good thing it is warm enough out to open windows.

From Bec on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 16:56:57 from 67.172.233.189

Glad to know all is well in cow country. At least where you are at. I can't believe where were on Saturday was untouched. I thought for sure we had lit the hill on fire when we ran down so fast.

From Nancy on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 20:20:58 from 76.27.19.206

I'm glad the fire didn't get to your house. I am glad you were able to get in a short run in.

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 23:42:11 from 75.162.85.220

I was watching the fire from Riverton and it was one of the most impressive things I have ever seen. That was the most powerful fire I have ever seen. Glad you're all ok out there.

From Merri on Tue, Sep 21, 2010 at 00:22:15 from 160.7.252.148

I stayed up last night watching the news too, and I was hoping you weren't one of the families evacuated! Glad things are better than the news made it sound.

From KP on Tue, Sep 21, 2010 at 09:52:48 from 65.208.22.25
