Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Okay, I'm only going to say this once, then I'll change my attitude, pick my head up, get back on the bandwagon and make it work: I think St George Marathon is going to be a disaster for me this year. My calves are still not cooperating like I want them too, and I'm afraid it's going to cause some big problems for me this weekend. Now, that the thought is out of my head it's gone - gone - gone.

Kids are off track, so I slept in and waited until baby was down for his morning nap then just ran up and down the street (I added a little loop at the end, but about the same) so I could check in on the kids that were supposedly cleaning their bedrooms every mile. Lucy (my puppy) hit the first couple loops with me - wow, I need to take her on more runs. She's getting slow and lazy - after the first mile of needing to bound off everywhere.

The first 3 miles were not good: slow, more painful on the calves than expected and normally on Mondays after a nice rest I've got a skip in my step - not today. After I dropped off Lucy (at mile 3), I decided I really want to try and open things up and see if I could keep pace. I was able to slowly ramp things up and get faster and faster and honestly the faster paces felt better on the legs than the slower paces. I don't know if that is a good sign or not. Either way, I felt a TON better by the end of the run than I did at the beginning. Plan was to run mile 5 at a nice cool down, but I felt good so I kept running the faster pace.

Rachel, I have also noticed that my legs, ankles and feet feel better when I'm running fast. Now if I could just keep up those paces for a long distance, I would be good to go, but I need to slowly work up to those paces, which I plan to continue doing after SGM.

Do the compression socks help your calves at all? I've had mine for a couple of weeks and I'm not sure if they are helping or not. I do like them, though. I'm hoping they will at least prevent me from getting blisters.

Rachel ~ My Mon. runs are often like that, sluggish the first couple miles and all the little training aches pop up. Who would have thunk w/ a great Sat run and a complete Sun off that we'd get a blah Mon!

I am certain you will be 100% fine by Sat. Your training have been phenomenal. You are going to PR BIG TIME!!! You are READY!!!! :)

my legs always act up before a marathon...tightness, weird aches and pains, sluggish, uncooperative, etc. this is the taper. don't let it fool you or bring any doubts about your abilities. you have put in the training and you will be good to go on saturday!

Dale, they do seem to help a ton. I actually wear them running and throughout the day to help with the healing as well. I only have the sleeves though. I'm a bit picky about my socks.

Smooth, Thanks for the boost, I'm hoping I can shake it and things turn out as well as I've prepared for.

Allie, I forget sometimes about these crazy taper pains. I'm hoping things feel good to go and not sluggish Saturday!

Rachel, I'm really picky about my socks, too, but I decided to go with some injinji compression socks that fit over my toes like a glove. They are surprisingly comfortable, even with my toes individually covered up. I'm hoping to avoid any blisters and not have my calves tighten up.

Rachel, you will be fine!!!! You girls always have such high expectations, I get giddy when I finish a marathon at any pace! I hope your calves behave for you, and best wishes cute girl!!!! Look for me! I am going to try and hang with the 5:30 pace group./

You've been training smart and are in great shape! The running fairies will be with you and will help you finish strong! YOU CAN DO IT!
