Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

My 3 year old went to bed with a fever last night, so I knew it was 'get up and run or get nothing' today (daycare at the gym tends to frown on sick kids coming). I was pleasantly rewarded with a BEAUTIFUL sunrise as I ran East this morning. There was a storm passing over the Wasatch and the sky was a deep pink/red and I'd occasionally catch a few lightning strikes on the peaks as well. One stretch as I was going North I could see the same sheen reflecting on the Oquirrhs to the West, it really was amazing. When I turned West I got to watch the long shadow of the Wasatch mtns slip down the Oquirrhs and eventually land on my shoulders. A wonderfully reflective morning getting to watch the sunrise - totally worth getting up and out!

The first three miles of this route is a nice easy downhill, then the next 3.5 are a steady climb back up to where I started and the last .5 a flat as I cut back into home. I commented yesterday how nice it was to not run feeling heavy and slow, but today I felt heavy and slow. Maybe it was that I actually was brave enough to step on the scale yesterday (still heavy!) or it could be my continued soreness from pushing all week so far and getting some x-training and resistance in as well. Either way, I am now VERY happy that I got out and moving no matter how slow! I need to start putting a good stretching cool down into my routine as well.

AP: 9:06 splits: 8:35, 8:21, 8:49, 9:20, 9:30, 9:49, 9:19 (you can really see the up and downs here!)

No gym today, which I think is a good thing the way I'm feeling, I'm going to try and do some stretching and rolling today to help some of the soreness move out. Other than that I get to sit around the house cuddle baby Fartlek and take care of  a sick 3 year old. Again, VERY grateful I got out this morning!!

Cal,it really was! quite unique with the storms passing over as well.

Huans, thanks, it's not always easy to get up and out!

Terri, he's still simply laying around watching tv, but at least he ate and drank this morning.

allie, I really do think we live in one of the most beautiful states!

Hey woman, it's always hard to get up and get the MoJo out the door! But this morning the sights were something to write home about. Just take your time and do it right the first time and avoid burn-out.

I didn't notice the sky in my basement.

Nice run today and the sunrise sounds awesome! I love watching the mountains and that sounds like a perfect way to get the day going.

I don't know any daycare that will take sick kids.

That's great that you got up and out and had such a beautiful run. Slow is fine.

From Nancy on Wed, Jul 28, 2010 at 20:12:49 from 76.27.19.206

Great job running. I think you were tired because you didn't get enough sleep. You never get enough sleep when you have a sick child and a baby that wakes up in the night.

From RAD on Wed, Jul 28, 2010 at 23:48:17 from 67.172.229.125

KP, Can't wait till we get to share this beautiful scenery with you!

Slick, no burn out on the horizon; however, I am a little worried about injury rearing it's ugly head from coming back too fast.

Paul, are you scared of vitamin d? :)

Scott, it really was amazing. Only thing better would've been to BE in the mountains!

Carolyn, some people at our gym do the 'don't ask don't tell' policy with sick kids. It's really annoying to hear the next day on FB how their kids were up all night throwing up and they were with your kids not 6 hours later in the day care! Oh, and I'm totally embracing slow right now. I forced myself not to look at my watch and just run what I felt.

Nancy, you may be right on the sleep. Do mothers ever get enough sleep? We get so conditioned for no sleep I think we forget what good sleep is like!!

From The Quiet Pirate on Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 12:38:42 from 65.191.108.72

Your avg pace was a 9:06 and you're "embracing slow?"

Whatever.

The description of the mountains and the clouds/sunrise was so good, I could imagine it happening in my head. I know it must have been wonderful.

From RAD on Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 14:07:27 from 67.172.229.125

okay, okay - so maybe just enjoying not pushing myself and running what I feel not worrying about pace.
