Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Holy Moly it is freakishly hot at noon! Now, I know that noon in the middle of July in Utah probably isn't the best time to get out for my first post-partum run, but I really only set out with intentions of  walking with maybe a bit of running interspersed. The run just took over and then I had to keep going.

I was slow...oh boy was I slow, but pushing a jogging stroller in the heat up hill and into the wind isn't as easy as I remember - oh, and neither is running 3 weeks after delivery :)

AP: 10:12 splits: 10:45, 9:26, 10:52, 9:43 (can you tell the uphill miles? :) )

I did an out and back and just turned around at 2 miles, it was hot and miserable. Honestly, the body felt fine: cardio, muscles, insides etc - it was just HOT and I was melting and done. I had a few stops to reposition the blanket over baby in the jogging stroller, but I stopped the garmin those times so I can't blame my slowness on that. If I get out tomorrow it will be early when it is not so hot! However, I'll probably just walk for the next day or two.

Baby update: one thing I LOVE about my sweet Adam is whenever he cries 95% of the time all I have to do is pick him up and kiss his sweet face and he stops crying. I love that kid! :)

Devine Miss M - crazy commando points, hum, negative or positive is the question? It is in your DNA, you must be a decendent of the Tarahumara indians, Borne to Run. Was Adam in the baby jogger? The next generation, without Pecard.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

Kelli - no, just 3. I couldn't help it :) However, it was SO hot that I think it helped me realize that I might be slightly crazy and maybe shouldn't run again for a while.

Teena, thanks! The run feels good now, but then it was just nasty hot!

Brent, I think the crazy commando points may have been negative today...too hot to try a 'first run' shouldn't be that bored, or crazy! Yes, I only had Adam in the jogger. My jogger is a double so I was grateful that hubby was home and I didn't have to take the rest of the tribe. If I did have to take them all I probably wouldn't have run - would've kept me walking instead.

I can't believe you could run 4 miles in the heat pushing a baby jogger only 4 weeks after having a baby. I couldn't run 4 miles in that much heat any time. I think it is hot a 7am when I run with Leslie.

It was hot, you are NUTS!!!!

Aren't most runners nuts though Kelli?

:)

He is so cute. I love those pictures. I am amazed you are trying to get back in action so quick!

Nancy, I have to laugh, because I know you still wear shorts and a t-shirt when it's 20 degrees out! :)

Kelli, I am the queen of loving heat - but yes, I must admit it was nuts and it was HOT!

Lily, we're not crazy...we're just bored :)

wow! i am majorly impressed! way to go rachel!

and, WHY do you have a blanket on that child in the middle of the summer? poor guy was probably melting.

welcome back! we've missed you, crazy running mama!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Jul 13, 2010 at 10:20:08 from 24.8.167.243

You are crazy, but very strong. I think you should take it easy for a few days before trying a stunt like that again.

From RAD on Tue, Jul 13, 2010 at 12:22:07 from 67.172.229.125

KP, the blanket was being used as a sun shield, just hanging from the sun shade on top that doesn't block all the sun. He was in shorts and a t-shirt with no blanket, I'm not that mean :)

Carolyn, message received and more than taken!! :)

You are crazy, lady :) Enjoy the rest while you can! Baby fartlek is so dang cute!
