Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Boy, I sure am getting lazy with this sleep thing :) I was going to get up and run this morning, but decided I'd have enough time at the gym to do some TM running. So, I turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. I must thank sweet Baby Fartlek for letting me sleep at night as well.

Went to boot camp, but only did stuff I knew wouldn't make me sore. If I felt any burning or pain starting I'd stop doing the stuff or modify. I refuse to make myself sore, but I do love that class! We ran a mile in class today, so I got to add on a mile to my projected distance for my run today as well.

After class went to the TM to wake up these legs! Decided I hadn't done any 800's in my training so I'd see if I could even hit a few at 3:30. I know it's not the full 8-10 with proper rest between etc etc that does a good accurate prediction, but I also don't want to exhaust myself. Just enough to wake 'em up!

1 mile warm-up at 9:20mm

800 @ 7:03 pace so a 3:31 or so - recovery .3 miles @ 9:13 (the TM doesn't have hundredths so I went for .3 instead of .2).

800 @ 6:58 pace = 3:29 - recovery .3 @ 9:13

800 @ 6:58 pace, 3:29 - recovery .3 @ 9:13

800 @ 6:58 pace (felt like I was going to die, so I bumped the speed down to 7:03 about 1/2 way, then felt good the last .1 and bumped it back up) = about 3:30.

Cooled down for the last .2 of the workout @ 9:13, then walked for 8 minutes afterward. AP for the 4 miles works out to be 8:15mm.

I'm surprised I could really hold those paces that long...things are looking good and confidence is building. Now to just get rid of these nasty shin splints...

Very nice 800's. Just enough to keep your legs sharp without overdoing it. Sounds like you're getting some good sleep too. Less than 10 days to go...

GOOD JOB on the 800s. I think compression sleeves help w/ shin splints!

Was thinking about you, Cal & Kelli on the fire! Glad you all are okay. Lowell called me to see if you're alright! Glad you're getting some sleep!

Cal, I think all the good sleep is putting me into a lul! :) I'm hoping I'm tapering correctly - I guess we'll see in about 10 days, right?

QP, roll, roll, roll your legs - to get you to the finish! :) I actually was a slacker last night and just sat on the nice comfy couch and watched Biggest Loser. I did, however, forgo my traditional bowl of ice cream during the show :)

Smooth, I think I am going to pick some up. I just need to get used to running in them and make sure I can tolerate 26.2 in them. Or maybe I'll just wear them UNTIL the race and hope things go well w/out them there. Lowell got an email through to me as well, and we're doing great - thankful for the rain this afternoon!

Great job Rachel. I'm glad you've started sleeping in. You've done all the training you need for the marathon so sleep will do you more good.

Paul, thanks!

Nancy, I keep rationalizing the same thing!

Walter, haha, I'm not quite sure I'd phrase it that way, but thanks!

KP, thanks, hopefully it all comes together like I'm hoping!
