Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Taper time! Step class, with some umph! today, then 30 min ab's class. Volleyball tonight, running tomorrow.

Would like opinions: If I use prednizone or the like  to keep my ITB pain away on Saturday to push for my BQ...is that considered 'cheating'?

You sure work out a lot. You are in great shape for your marathon.

Sorry. I don't know anything about prednizone.

From RAD on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 15:13:50 from 76.27.12.70

Prednisone (sorry sp wrong) is an anti-inflammatory drug that PREVENTS inflammation. So, it will stop my pain before it starts, if it does start at all. It will just help me not have pain, but it is a 'steroid'

From MrsFIT on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 15:13:53 from 205.127.241.18

Not at all, the prednisone acts to "level the playing field" between injured and uninjured athlete's.

Thanks for the sweet comments over the weekend. I'll keep you updated as to Aubry's progress. The operation was successful, but it takes a few days to see if her body 'likes' the kidney. Anyway, I had plantar facitis and my doctor would not even give me the injection until I promised to stay off my foot if he gave it to me. He said I'd really injure myself if he 'masked the swelling' and I continuted to run on it (like it might tear instead of just swell). Prednisone does have it's place-- you should put that on the comment board and see what comes up. It's the ongoing kind of questions we all ask ourselves.

Nope, not cheating at all. If it will help you then go for it.

(have you been taking it already? lots of side effects...)

From leslie peterson on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 15:52:14 from 76.23.61.78

I hope you get the answer you need about the meds, I don't know anything about it. Good luck at TOU!!!!

YOu sure do work out alot!!!!!

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 15:55:27 from 71.219.96.151

Ah, I forgot about the side effects. There are those...

However, NOT CHEATING. Not any more than taking Aleve.

From RAD on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 15:56:09 from 76.27.12.70

Luz, I'd love updates! Tomorrow is my appt with the doc...we'll see what he says. I don't have the pain until late miles in a marathon, I usually even avoid the pain in long training runs! with the downhill in TOU I'm just afraid it will tear up the ITB's and I'll have to, again, finish in pain. Just looking for something to hopefully keep it away those last 5-8 miles!!

Cal, never been on it before, but since I only need it for the race I'm thinking I'd just go on it for a couple days then one day wean...I guess we'll see what the doc says tomorrow. I'm hoping for just 3-4 days side effects will be tolerable, or at least worth it.

Leslie, thanks...I don't know much either, just heard a lot and hoping for a miracle cure :)

From RAD on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 15:56:57 from 76.27.12.70

Kelli, would they be bad even if I was only on it for a few days?

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 16:07:20 from 71.219.96.151

The side effect for me was weight gain (water retention---I have heard it causes uncomfortable bloating in some people. I think Shimelle had issues with this???). I only took it for seven days. I think that would not affect your running! It also makes you kind of wired and I did not sleep well at all while taking it. That might be a problem.

From RAD on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 16:10:11 from 76.27.12.70

well, 3 or 4 days would probably be even less...I'm hoping. Sleeping usually isn't a problem for me one way or another, unless I stay up too late :) What is a little bloating in the face of a BQ? lol!

From Bec on Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 19:48:27 from 67.177.35.60

I don't know RAD, I really don't know. I hate dealing with meds and all of the crazy side effects that can go along with them. :( Ask the doc... In my opinion this is NOT cheating.
