Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Nice run up Provo River Trail with friends...totally worth being crazy and driving 45 minutes to run just 12 :) Thanks Luz, Katherine, Smooth, Kelli and MrsFit!!! It was great to see all of you, plus I ran into Josse as well. Utah county is definitely full of good runners - all out getting their 20-22 in today on the trail!

First 6 were up the canyon with a NASTY headwind, plus I was enjoying myself just visiting and never looked at the pace, I was happy - I'm in taper so why bother with pace?  10:04, 9:58, 9:20, 9:22, 9:29, 9:02. I left the group at Nunn's park when they stopped for pop break to finish my last .6 miles, got just above the falls, stopped and took in the beauty for a minute then turned around at 6 even. Got to say good-bye to all and wish them good luck on their long runs on the way down.

Coming down the canyon was fun, I just felt like I could fly! With the wind at my back and the downhill it just seemed too easy - then I checked the pace - 7:30?!? Holy crud, I could hardly believe I was moving that fast, did NOT feel that fast. Tried to keep pace even as the canyon flattened out. 7:42, 7:33, 7:32, 7:40, 7:40, 7:31. What surprised me was the consistency. I'm usually all over the board.

I was done when I got to the car and wondered how some people can run that fast and faster for 26 miles! AP: 8:35, I'm honestly not entirely sure and/or confident about TOU next Saturday. I know I'll survive, but after today's run I'm just hoping to finish under 5 hours :)

Rachel ~ GREAT JOB flying down the canyon! THANKS for coming all the way down here to run with us.

OK, time to put on the game face. Don't let today's one be the judgment call. You have to take into account ALL your training. How did you feel when you hit a certain pace on a certain day at a certain condition. How does marathon pace feel to you. When you run TOU, run with confidence that you had run 26.2 twice in the last 4 months, you had hit some great uphill paces, those legs are strong. You will DO GREAT. I highly doubt sub-5. You may surprise yourself with a sub-4. BTW! Did you know Lowell and Terry are running TOU? See you soon!

From RAD on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 17:56:36 from 76.27.12.70

WHAT? Lowell and Terry will be there? Oh, seriously that just made me feel like 500X better. For some reason those guys are like angels! I'll have to email Lowell to let him know I'll see him there - thanks for the info! AND vote of confidence, I'm just SO lacking that right now :(

From Brent on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 18:01:14 from 66.7.127.219

Devine, I will stick with my prediction, run the first half in 1:45, no faster, you will run a 2 hour second half for a 3:45, your in great shape. Nice run, love that downhill Provo trail.

Yee haw! you are SO smokin' fast :) Your TOU will be great :) Just have a nice week and no stress :) I am so glad you had great day! Fun times :)

From RAD on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 18:23:49 from 76.27.12.70

hmmm...1:45 for the first half? That seems fast; however, I think your predictions are usually rather accurate. I may try it - then see if I can pull just over 4 minutes off that last 2 hrs to sneak in a BQ :) Thanks Brent!!

From RAD on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 18:25:16 from 76.27.12.70

Thanks Marion, TOU will be good if my ITB's will cooperate - that is my nervousness. I don't want to run in that pain ANY MORE!!! I'm enjoying my weekend a little too much (lots of cookies at Super Saturday today!)

From leslie peterson on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 19:08:47 from 76.23.61.78

Nice Rachel!!!!!! That was a great pace this morning, and you are in taper mode to boot!!! You will be great next week!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 19:15:49 from 24.8.167.243

I'm sorry Rachel, but I had to laugh out loud when you said sub-5. More like sub-4 my dear. Believe in yourself. I certainly believe in you.

You're eating cookies, eh. I made rice crispy treats today.

From The Quiet Pirate on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 19:58:53 from 65.191.134.20

RAD-

Your times are great..especially for tapering. I'm with Carolyn that you'll get sub 4 on TOU. You'll have great company and you'll know we're all cheering for you, even if we can't be there.

And I get the gold star for snacks today. Not cookies, not rice crispies, but the dessert of the Gods....baklava! OPA!

From Nancy on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 20:37:36 from 76.27.11.127

Great job Rachel. I'm sure you'll do great in TOU. You are such an awesome runner.

From Teena on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 22:18:32 from 67.177.20.13

Rachel ...

You are great!! You will do absolutely fantastic at TOU ... just watch!!!

From Bec on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 22:37:59 from 67.177.35.60

You know what? You trained really hard for this marathon and I don't think you are giving yourself enough credit. Trust yourself, believe it and achieve it! You are an awesome runner and I KNOW that you can run a sub-4 hour marathon. Taper, rest, and eat well this week, you have nothing to loose!

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 22:49:44 from 71.219.97.42

No stress at all, but you will do great. I have full confidence in a BQ time if that is what you aim for!

Nice run today!! You are crazy for driving that far to run 6 miles with people, but, runners are crazy!

From RAD on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 23:51:09 from 76.27.12.70

Thanks all for your kind and reassuring words, it's just frustrating when you know you have it in you, but don't know if your body (ITB) will let you. I'm SO afraid of having to run a ton of miles in that pain again and having all my hopes shot in the foot again. Trying not to get my hopes up, but secretly vying for a BQ!

From DonGardinero on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 00:50:57 from 75.162.103.165

WOW Rachel, you were really flying on the way back down!!! Awesome. I don't think I've ever run that many miles THAT fast. Way to go. I know what you mean about not having confidence that your ITB will hold up. I was the same way at Ogden and Utah Valley, especially Utah Valley. My knee was giving me problems after only a couple of miles. However, I think you'll do great!!!

From Bec on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 01:00:52 from 67.177.35.60

Rachel, you have got to come with a solution to these ITB's in a few days! I know that some running stores sale those bands that you put around your knee. You've got to tape those bad boys up before the race or something!!!! You have to get that BQ, and you can't let those stinkers win this time!!!

From RAD on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 22:30:23 from 76.27.12.70

Dale, thanks! downhill is always fun :) I'm doing my best with those dang ITBs!

Becca, I'm doing what I can, I'm just afraid it won't be enough, pre-race anxiety - that's all! I'm bound and determined to get that BQ, trust me!! I'm thinking I may just run my guts out as long as I can. They say it's time not speed that does the ITB in - so if I can finish faster maybe I can out run them :) Or at least if I get to mile 20 at 2:30 instead of 3:15, I may have a chance of 'walking' it in :)
