Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

What an amazing day for a run! Minus the wind the weather was perfect, I even wore a long-sleeve shirt and felt great. The wind was nasty, even made me yell at it a few times as we headed north - YUCK, I hate wind! Thank you so much Kelli for putting together a wonderful run on the famous JRP, I had a great time and got to chat a little with everyone: Kelli, Smooth, Walter, JonA, Scott and Smooth's neighbor John.

Took until about mile 6 to really feel good. I think around 4 I started contemplating whether or not to just do 10, I don't need an over 40 week...nope, just easy. Then at the 5 mile turn around I waited for Kelli and Smooth and that made it ALL better :) When we were contemplating only doing 14 or 16 intstead of 18, around mile 12 I was the one that said "nah, we can do it!" So, obviously the attitude changed.

I honestly forgot how much I love the long run. Maybe not during, but after. A good long easy run does wonders for me!! I think today conviced me to sign up for Park City as a training run, the long slow miles will do me good to get the confidence and base for TOU, then I'll attempt another 'racing' marathon.

AP: 9:07 splits:  9:28, 9:02, 8:38 (Walter tricked me into keeping a faster pace with him!), 9:07, 9:10, 8:58, 9:00, 9:34, 9:12, 9:16, 9:18, 9:18, 9:02, 9:01, 9:02, 8:57, 9:10, 8:55.

Great run, I'm still a little confused as to how it is August and I'm sitting here with a jacket on shivering trying to type...too cold!!!

I'm putting this out there to help my sister out: She's wondering how to set the garmin to beep at you if you go over/under a certain pace. I don't know how to do it. Does anyone out there know? Please let her know on her blog "the quiet pirate"

Sounds like you had an amazing, relaxing run today. Any skunks? (Besides Walter)

hehehe, nope. But I had to point out exactly where we saw the skunk :)

what a fun day! It does feel good to have a long run, all day I try and drop it into my conversation. I am a sly devil. Nice job Rachel for putting out the miles, and with the coolest runners in Utah!!! Have a nice day!

From Nancy on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 16:02:06 from 76.27.11.127

Great job Rachel. You're getting so fast I'm sure you'll qualify for Boston soon.

Wonderful! It's so great that you can enjoy a long run like that. I agree with, Nancy. You'll qualify for Boston soon. You would have qualified in Ogden if it hadn't been for that stupid ITB.

Devine Miss M - seems like you had some wind beneath your wings today, nice runner's group high.

Rachel,

THANK YOU so much for running with me today. You made it so fun. If it weren't for your "change of attitude", I would have wimped out at 14. You even made the wind bearable.

Yes, let's do Park City. You were flying on the uphill. You would love the PC's uphill and great training run for TOU. One of these days, I'll have to come see your flowers.

This is for your sister: For Garmin 305, Use the mode button (left side lower button) to get to "Training", use the enter button (right side lower button) to get to "Training Option", enter to get to "Alerts", Scroll down to "Pace Alert", enter and there's the screen to let you scroll up and down to set the paces you want to be alert.

Leslie, yes...a long run makes you the talk of the town among non-runners :)

Thanks Nancy! I'm working on it.

Carolyn, I still think that stinky ITB ruined my perfect first marathon. Oh well, I'll just have to try again!

Brent, I did feel much better than I have for a while running!

Smooth, Thanks so much for letting me tag along. I LOVE running JRP with you guys! I'm going to sign up for PC ASAP, I think it's better than the Hobble Creek option. My quad doesn't do well with speed and downhill, so a longer slow run will help more for TOU. Oh, and thanks for the info for the QP!!

Thanks for the run and the company! That was one of my favorite long runs ever, feeling yucky and all. Hope your day went well and you got yard work done and that your little guy was feeling great!

I'm so happy that you had a great run. You needed that. Long runs with friends are the best.

From Leandra on Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 12:22:41 from 207.224.207.18

Nice run! I totally hear you on loving the long runs- not during but after :). I'm the same way, it's such a good feeling after you're done even if you are completely exhausted. It's that good feeling after that keeps me going because sometimes during the run I don't understand why I'm even running. 18 miles is sweet! And I hope you can get into PC, you will do awesome!
