Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I have looked forward to today since I found out Kelli was entertaining at Lehi again. However, this morning was definately not my best running morning! lead legs and crampy gut and exhaustion were unfortunately all part of the 'bad' equation. We did keep an AP of 9.02, and it seemed like 7 mm to me! I hit a huge wall around 10, but thanks to good company and my pack mule (Smooth) saving me with a little gatorade I made it through the last 6. I really wish I could get my body to do what my brain wants it to do! I wanted so bad to run this under 9, but since I started this Typhoid oral immunization on Monday (last pill is on Sun YEA!) my gut has been in a knot and everything I eat makes me nauseated, not to mention Aunt Flo's visit. I think I was just all out of energy and storage. It still was a good run and good for me mentally to not dwell or whine, but just keep up with the speedy ladies a stride in front of me. Thanks again Kelli and Smooth! I'm sure I wouldn't have made it, or at least nearly as fast, without your good company and the muffins at the finish!! I did it and didn't die, that today is an accomplishment - I also feel okay muscle/fatigue wise. Yea for my body, I have been blessed.

Way to go Rachel! This was your longest run ever so I say great job for the pace. I about croaked today and I've done that distance LOTS!

From Smooth on Sat, Feb 07, 2009 at 22:35:26

Rachel, THANK YOU for running WITH me. You are a great runner. I had no idea today's run was your longest. You ran FAST and STRONG. Your training is coming along very well. Have confidence in your training. Taper down this coming week and you will rock at Myrtle Beach. I am so excited for you!!!

From Rachel on Sat, Feb 07, 2009 at 23:14:24

Michelle, I hope in a few months I can say I've done this distance lots! Aren't bad running days downers? I wish I knew how to make them all good ones.

Smooth, yeah I did 16 a couple weeks ago and that was my longest, but the little extra put me over the top today. I also took 46 seconds per mile off my AP trying to keep up with you and Kelli (I only remember starting at the backs of your shoes those last 4 miles!). I'm definately going to taper down and get my body ready to push at Myrtle Beach, it WILL be a good running day AND I won't have Typhoid any more either :)

Good run Rachel! The next half you run you will be well under 2 hours.

From kristel on Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 08:48:30

Great Job!!! It's so hard to run long when your stomach, etc is not cooperating. You did awesome today!

From Nancy on Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 09:10:53

I think you are awesome Rachel. Is Myrtle Beach you first half-marathon, or did you do Painters? Is Smooth in our running group? I just hope I am in good enough shape to run the Riverton 1/2 marathon then end of March.

From Kelli on Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 17:59:10

Rachel, you did great. I think so many people forget just how slow those long runs are supposed to be! PLus, you had all of your illness junk going on, we battled the ice which made us very slow, and you have had two long weeks of running! Enjoy a very good taper this week and you will rock on your half. I am SO EXCITED to hear about it, I can hardly wait. You better post it quick cause we will all be chompin' at the bit here in Utah!

How was the movie? Oh, and you look so FABULOUS in regular clothes! I hve never seen you outside of working out. you are so flippin' skinny! All of your hard work with Mike and running and not pigging out is really showing! You are my IDOL!

From Rachel on Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 18:10:48

Jon and Kristel - Thanks a ton, I'm hoping for a good finish in Myrtle. Running with 'elite' runners really makes you realize what you can do with just a small amount of extra dedication and effort!

Nancy, Myrtle will be my 3rd (and fastest :) 1/2 marathon, and no on Painters. I'm running with my sister who dragged me into running to begin with.

Kelli, you are so sweet! I've been thinking about how to post it quickly on Saturday about a week after I started blogging :) Isn't it fun to see people when they're 'pretty'? I'm going to have to make it to one of your parties some time to see everyone without hats/scarves/jackets and running tights! Remember skinny is all in perspective- I'd trade you in an instant for your cute little hips and thighs! oh yeah, I bailed on the movie and sat at the computer and did my blog stuff and facebook. I finally went down when the credits were playing ... ooops. Oh well, I heard 'ham-bur-ger' enough afterward :)

From Brent on Sun, Feb 08, 2009 at 22:17:36

Rachel, Rachel - it seems you have some of the amazing miss M in you. Very good pace for a winter long run, the pace will serve you well at Odgen. Mytle beach? If I remember, 1 loop for the 1/2 and two loops for the marathon. I once ran the Carolina marathon on the same weekend as the Myrtle beach, picked the Carolina as it was the same course as the Olympic trials for women and it was advertised as a tough course, and it was.
