Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I am getting a bit frustrated with not sleeping at night...things get better, then worse, better then worse. I go to bed early just to be awakened every couple hours and I wake up feeling more desperate  for sleep than when I went to bed.

Ran to the church to run the 5K route twice, which with the mile there would give me 8 total. I was going to try to push the 5K's, but I think I ran the slowest 5K's I've run in a long time. Sluggish legs with no sleep = a long slow morning run.

I'm also going to gripe about people NOT stopping at stop signs, speeding and not ever looking right before they turn. Ugghhh....I'm tired of nearly getting killed every morning.

AP: 9:08 splits: 9:37 (warm-up), 9:03, 9:21, 9:01 (1st 5K = 27:25, less the .1), 9:13, 9:07, 8:41 (2nd 5K, less the .1 - finally getting moving a bit = 27:01), 8:59 (cool down).

Now I'm off to boot camp, then I'll probably take some time to read on the bike to try and give myself a little time to myself....

***boot camp (mostly resistance training, not much cardio), then 4 easy miles (20 min @ L3) on the bike as I read RW.***

Be careful out there... NOBODY looks for runners... we have to look out for ourselves. Nice run... hope you have a wonderdul day.

it really is scary out there. almost every time i encounter a car turning right out of a side street or driveway, their head is turned to the left without ever even glancing to the right. i have taken to just going out of my way to run behind the cars. less hassle and much less dangerous than just going for it or even trying to make eye contact with them.

nice miles today. i hope the sleep thing starts getting better for you.

Right turning cars are the worst.

Nice job on your run, especially on sluggish legs that's a good distance.

Treadmills are safer. :)

Lori, I know! We put up with it and make exceptions for stupid people, but if they would just drive following the LAW it wouldn't be so bad!

Allie, I do the same thing, but I just get sick of it. Plus, I'm ornery from not getting any sleep/down time for the last 36 hours - so I'm whining and complaining a lot today :)

Cal, you hit the nail on the head! If they would simply stop at the stop sign that would even help.

Paul, if I could stomach them I'd do it!

Oh man, I've almost been hit so many times this year from drivers turning right.

When your baby is old enough, you should try the ferber method on him. Teach that boy to sleep unassisted through the night. I did this to my last one when he was 5 months. Worked like a charm! :)

You're doing great!

From RAD on Wed, Sep 15, 2010 at 16:16:15 from 67.172.229.125

Lily, every afternoon I try modified Ferber with him. If he doesn't sleep for at least 2 hours I'll let him whine it out until 2 hours hits (I go in every 10 min or so and put the binki back in, turn on his aquarium and snuggle blankets back around him). He's only gone back to sleep once... Today I finally got Toby's recommended book "Healthy Sleeping, Happy Baby" today. She said it worked for her triplets, so I'm more than willing to give it a try!

Rachel I think you should try to take a nap every day. That is the only way I stayed sane with 8 kids. Great job with all the running and not much sleep.

From Toby on Wed, Sep 15, 2010 at 23:37:10 from 66.133.97.196

Sorry about the no sleep! That is THE hardest parts of having a newborn. Sending zzzzzz's your way!

From The Quiet Pirate on Thu, Sep 16, 2010 at 13:01:34 from 152.26.59.252

I've found that lots of people have foggy, dewy, windows in the mornings and can't really see out of them when they're turning. I've thought about carrying a 1 million candle watt flashlight to shine at them if they're turning in front of me (or won't put their high beams off when they're driving toward me).

Either that or an air horn...for my bursitis...

From RAD on Thu, Sep 16, 2010 at 13:15:37 from 67.172.229.125

Nancy, I should nap, but I always feel like when baby is asleep, it's my only time to get anything done. I'm working on it though!

Toby, thanks for the zzz's! I caught them last night :)

QP, air horn, huh? Not a bad idea!

I can't stand drivers that never look to the right either. I've had to slap a few on the hood and they always look so surprised. It's worth going behind them to stay alive.
