The weather was a little cool today (40 Degrees) and there was a fairly strong breeze (20 mph).  Although my Avg time was a few seconds slower than planned I feel this was a very sucessful run.

My running schedule has gotten a little messed up this week so I' going to have to run my long run tomorrow. I'ts only 13 miles but it is at a faster pace. Here's today's run:

12/23/2011
Mile Time HR HR % Max HR
1.25 Warm-up @ 8:45
1 7:10:00 154 80%
2 7:33:00 160 85%
3 6:49:00 160 85%
4 6:53:00 160 85%
5 7:00:00 161 85%
6 7:06:00 166 89%

1.6 Cool-Down @ 8:45

Pace 7:05:10   Total Miles 8.85

Target:
Tempo Run - 1 Warm-Up, Stretch, 6 Miles @ 7:00 pace, 1 mile cool-down
The wind made this run very tough. The first 2 miles were directly into the wind and uphill. Miles 3-4 were with the wind or with a cross wind. Mile 5 was with the wind but most

That is a great run IJR! I would say with the conditions you hit your target ... although you lose points for whining about it in your opening sentence. :)

How are you feeling about your heart rate on these runs ... as I know you have used that as a gauge in the past?

From I Just Run on Fri, Dec 23, 2011 at 13:56:13 from 12.162.141.2

You're right JG my opening sentence was whiny...so I changed it. I don't want to get the reputation of a winer :-(

I'm feeling pretty good about my HR. Comparing to very similar runs (time and distance) back in May/June my HR seems to be about 5 BPM less. I'm not sure about the overall effort, I don't have an Effort Meter :-)

From JG on Fri, Dec 23, 2011 at 14:03:49 from 71.59.27.33

Much better intro! :)

That is great about your HR, that has to be a result of all your cycling, don't you think? Or maybe it is just cooler weather/less humidity? lol Do you track your resting HR?

From I Just Run on Fri, Dec 23, 2011 at 14:21:54 from 12.162.141.2

I'm not sure about the HR. I was thinking it was all of these varied workout that take my HR to the limit and then allow for quick recovery. In all my cycling my HR is in the recovery zone. I'm sure the cooler weather play a factor in the HR but honestly I can't tell how much.

My resting HR is 36. The highest I have ever gotton my HR is 183 and that was probably over a year ago. I have tried several times lately to bring it to it's peak but can only get it to about 175-176.

Oh, I also noticed that I had a mistake on my HR total formula, the Avg should be 160 which I corrected.

From JG on Fri, Dec 23, 2011 at 14:35:37 from 71.59.27.33

Wow, my RHR is like double that! Don't really know much about it, but I think lots of training in the recovery zone is very beneficial to your heart rate ... could be completely wrong there though. Maybe Flat can fill us in, I know he is reading up on heart rate training now. I got a book on it a couple years ago, but it held my attention span for about 15 minutes!

Nice run! I'd say it was a success. That wind is a killer! Sorry I missed that first whiny line :-)

From Steam8 on Fri, Dec 23, 2011 at 20:07:06 from 166.70.55.77

8.85 is long for me ...but 40 is not cool! I headed out in the teens today....it might have even been under the teens! It was coooooold! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!! Merry Christmas IJR!

I measured my resting HR this week (yep, took the Garmin and strap to my bedroom and put them on before I got up). It was 50 bpm, so a lot higher than yours. My HRmax is 193, so my overall heart rate reserve is 143 compared to 147 for you.

Merry Christmas and many years of prosperity to you and yours.
