This seems silly typing in three days of nothing all at once. No run, no fun, no nothing to talk about. I wonder if I could ride a bike or my horse? Ahhh...for some reason my back doesn't hurt when I ride my horse :-)

Dang, hope the horse got a workout at least. Any ideas about this injury yet? Hope it isn't too serious.

I'm not going to call this an injury because I don't think it's running related. I think it's my old "on going" back issue. It used to flar up every few months and completly quit when I started running. It's been over a year since I had it happen. I think the minor hip flexor would have worked it's way out in a couple of days. The way this back thing goes I may be posting a 20 mile run tomorrow. When it goes away, it goes away fast :-)

Sorry to hear about the back problems. I've had a lot of experience with lower back issues also. They started before my running days but since I've been running the flareups are less frequent and less intense when I get them however when I do get them they almost always seem to come when I'm building mileage back up quickly like when I'm trying to cram to get ready for a marathon after taking time off for an injury. What seems to work best to get me running quickly has been no running and no stretching during the acute phase and lots of ibuprofen [I'll take 800 mg 3 times a day]. I usually start running again before the pain is completely gone but start by testing it with short runs and if it dosen't get worse I start building back up. It's tough though when you've got physical work to be done especially lifting. I've usually been able to ride my bike. Glad you can still ride your horse. Hope some of this helps and you can get back to it quickly.

I had a slight tear in a back muscle when I was 25. It is ok now of course, but every so often mr back pain jumps back in my life and it really can ruin a day, week or even longer. I feel for you and pray you are back at it asap!

Hey Dave,

You're right about the streaching, it doesn't help my back either. I'm still thinking my problem is as much in the hip as the back. When I lay in bed and then get up and stand on my leg it's really sore and as I move around it gets better. It really feels like it's in the hip but I know how back pain can be deceiving. I've given it five days, I may start with the ibuprofen tomorrow and go ahead and run a little.
