Hey guys, I found this website that has some good information expecially the "Training and Racing Heart Rate Zones" spreadsheet (I like spreadsheets!)...Take a look: http://mymarathonpace.com/Running_Calculators.html

Mad Run Today...Nothing to do with my running...all to do with my roping. Went to a roping last night and had run-back to win 1st and missed last one. Payout was about $ 1,400...Ahhhh!!!

Oh well...now to the run. After Blogging with Turbo Joe yesterday about the OK Marathon and his goal of 3:20:00 I decided to run my 12 miles at a 7:30 pace to see how it felt and to see if I thought I could stay with him...Well, I don't think I can maintain that pace for 26.2 miles, maybe 15....? So I think I need to access what my goal is going to be. I think I need to try about a 7:45 pace next week. It seems like I begin to "labor" over 155 bpm on my HR. I'm very happy with the consistancy of my pace. I tried to keep the same pace up and down the hills...Mr. Garmin doesn't lie..:-) The extra .35 miles was a jog back to my house.

Oh... I've added a HR% column to my chart so I can see where I am at every split...Pretty cool...Ehhh....? (The wonders of excel)

“Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, “I did not laugh.” But he said, “Yes, you did laugh.”

Well you get a few bonus seconds that will help a little - 7:38 is the magic number you're looking for for a 3:20. That's a great run you had in any case.

You'll have to fill me in on the team roping details at OKC. I've seen it at rodeos before, looks really difficult.

Magic of race day will help the pace, very good effort. Nice roping dude.

Nice consistent run, was that on a flat course or do you increase the effort going up hills?

From Burt on Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 23:06:21 from 72.223.90.79

Nice running. I think I could keep that pace up for about 8 miles. Maybe.

From I Just Run on Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 23:14:11 from 166.205.13.94

Hey Flatlander,

This was on my normal hilly route.I just tried to keep the same pace up and down the hills. I really didn't look at my Garmin much, only occasionally and when it beeped at the end of each mile. I was very suprised to see the consistency. I believe it shows I'm getting stronger but I still feel I need to improve my endurance. Tomorrow is 15 at 8:00 pace...we'll see how that goes.

From I Just Run on Sat, Mar 12, 2011 at 23:17:28 from 166.205.13.94

Thanks Burt,

Now I need to figure out how to do it for 26...I can crawl the last .22. : )

From Kelli on Sun, Mar 13, 2011 at 22:31:32 from 71.219.97.85

Honestly, something different happens on race day that you just can not duplicate on a regular run. if you can hit those paces for 12 miles (something I CAN NOT do), I think you will be very pleased with your marathon performance and time. That is just my two cents!!!

From I Just Run on Sun, Mar 13, 2011 at 23:56:48 from 71.41.149.142

Hi Kelli,

I had that experience on my last (actually second) Half Marathon, I supprised myself and ran 6 minutes faster than my first one only two weeks prior. Hope it holds true X2.

From Kelli on Mon, Mar 14, 2011 at 11:05:37 from 71.219.97.85

I think it all just depends on how you run, I suppose. I am consistently a pretty wimpy runner, but something just happens in a race that can no be duplicated for me anywhere else. I actually worked really hard last year to hit my 800 pace, but I never could quite pull off (and still can't) my tempo pace.

Best of luck to you!
