Slow Joe told me that the Big-D Marathon is on April 14th. I already had plans to go to Ft Worth on April 13th and run a Mud Run with my daughter (she has already entered us). I'm now wondering if I could be somewhat ready and run the Big-D??? I planned to do the Mud Run as just a fun, slow thing anyway. As Callie hasn't been running much I figured we would walk and jog most of the Mud Run anyway.

Hummm...do I change my plans again?

I'm guessing it tends to be a little warm for that race (Texas in mid-April), but you might be able to make a last minute decision if the forecast looks cool enough...as long as it doesn't fill up.

25 days? Can you do it?

From JG on Wed, Mar 20, 2013 at 21:27:25 from 174.49.78.66

I would say enjoy the mud run with Callie & keep the big picture in mind with the marathon. Some people run marathons just for the fun of them ... But when your goal is to PR it is best to pick them more than 3 weeks in advance & then participate in a 3 mile mud/obstacle run the day before ... Even if you were to just walk it!

I would be more inclined to run the Temple race since it's not on the weekend of the mud run, it's only a couple hours away from my house, it only cost $70 to run and it's a slightly down hill point to point race. I'm almost certain it will be way too hot on either date but it happened to be 55 degrees or less I'll probably jump in. At this point I would be focussing on just getting the experinece and not necessarly a BQ, I'm a little discouraged with that :-(

What is the Temple Race?

From I Just Run on Thu, Mar 21, 2013 at 08:21:01 from 67.79.11.242

I believe it's the first time. It's to honor the US military and is a point to point race averaging 10' drop each mile. It is a Boston qualifier too.

I like the "net downhillyness" of the run, but the profile shows a lot of ups and downs. (It's the first thing I look at, because I am a wimp).

30 days? Seems reasonable. You are in pretty good shape right now, right?

If this is a democracy, my vote is for you going for your BQ. Let the masses decide! 1 runner, 1 vote!

From I Just Run on Thu, Mar 21, 2013 at 09:29:51 from 67.79.11.242

Tom,

I don't think the ups and downs will be much on this course, just enought the let you change your stride and stretch out every so often.

I guess I'm in pretty good shape right now, I've been averaging about 50 mpw for the last 9 weeks, except for the week I ran part of the Ft Worth marathon.

My biggest concern is the weather, it could be 80 degrees by then. If we just happen to hit a 50 degree morning that day it would be GREAT!

From JG on Thu, Mar 21, 2013 at 17:44:38 from 174.49.78.66

Yeah ... that one sounds better ... considering it is not the day after a mud run! lol I notived it starts at 6:30 too which is good ... how hot could it be by 10:00? Never mind that question ... it was 85 degrees in Boston at 10:00 last year! At leaset you would be finishing & not starting :)
