Today was my 2nd day of my RLRF Program. I believe I had a little more success on this run than on Monday’s run although it was tough. The program called for 2 mile easy warm-up, 2 miles 6:45 tempo and 2 miles easy cool-down. You can see my results below in the chart. My times varied somewhat but most of this is due to the hilly terrain I run around my house. Luckily miles 3 and 4 are on the flatter part of this route with 3 being slightly downhill (about 50’ drop) and mile 4 is slightly uphill (about 50’ rise) so if you even out the two times I believe the paces make sense. I did fade about a quarter mile from the finish of the second mile. I’ll be excited to try this same run in a couple of months to see (hopefully) improvement. I can tell you, after this run, I have doubts that I can break the 20:00 mark on a 5-K.

I am still having a little soreness in the glute-ham tie-in on my left leg (like that word…I looked it up). It’s the same place I’ve always had some issues but not related to the major hip problem I had before.

Interesting splits. Do you every feel like a laboratory rat? You are signed up for the RLRF group and I am relegated to the LHR bums.

Yeah, I probably should just log 2 miles warm-up, then document my Tempo Miles and then log 2 miles cool-down without any times or HR on the warm-up and cool-down. The book doesn't define warm-up and cool-down very well it only gives specifics for the Temp Miles. I really am just documenting the w-u and c-d so I can figure out what "easy" means. The difference in w-u and c-d times is mostly related to terrain. The One 9:00 mile was a 30 second breather to get a good drink of water....And yes I do sometimes feel like a lab rat! Can you hear the wheel squeaking?

I seldom feel like I can break a 20 minute 5k on a training run ... Have faith ... you can only achieve that which you believe! I have always struggled with tempo runs because it is crazy hilly around here. Nice run!

From Rye on Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 20:38:02 from 174.27.123.1

Doubt ..... I think you can break that 20 min barrier. That's a goal of mine too. I have those doubts myself, but it's all about the training and sticking to it, and being willing to see little green men!

From flatlander on Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 20:43:27 from 198.207.244.102

Meaning if there are little green men then anything is possible, including us Texas runners breaking 20? (DH and SJ don't count.)

From I Just Run on Thu, Nov 10, 2011 at 22:52:28 from 71.41.149.142

I probably used poor wording...I should have added "right now" to my doubt comment. I have been thinking I could just go out and blow the 20:00 away. I do believe I can get there soon especially now that I am reminded about the little green men :-) Ha ha...DH & SJ are probably laughing at us about our 20:00 goal !
