Yay, today was the day of my favorite half course around. Jason and I loaded the buses and were up at the start line about an hour early. It was fun to chit chat with our friends to pass the time. The race started on time again this year, thank goodness. Jason and I kept a nice strong pace and hit our 5k at 22 minutes and our 10k at 46 minutes. I was feeling really good, but around mile 10 Jason told me that he was tired and to go on without him. I wanted him there for the last few miles when I knew the head games would start. I hated to leave him, but knew if I wanted to be in the elite 100 I had to push on alone. I felt myself starting to slow around mile 11 and knew the head games were setting in. With one mile left to go I started getting leg cramps on my right inner thigh and had to convince myself to keep pushing strong. I rounded the corner to the finish line and heard a woman coming up on me in an all out sprint, I started to sprint and beat her in. I DID IT! I made the Elite 100 women with a time of 1:44:11, 7:57 AP. A woman said to me "Awesome job elite lady!" as she placed the elite medal around my neck. The funny thing is there were still about 10 elite medals left to give out, but when I got my race printout it said I was woman 100. Can't get closer than that! I was so elated! I hurried and got my chip off my shoe and grabbed a drink just in time to see Jason come through the finish, which I never get to see since he is usually faster than me. All in all an awesome day. Congrats to all our friends who ran this race as well.
