Endure and persist; this pain will turn to your good. - Ovid

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. - Romans 5:1-5

I'm pretty sore from the race on Saturday, which I suppose is a good thing. Taking today off, will resume running again tomorrow. It's nice to take a big deep breath, exhale, and relax a little after a big race.

Ran home from work. It rained the whole way, with a strong headwind. As usual. It made me very grumpy. 7:05/mile. Legs still aren't recovered, but I ran faster than I planned to in order to get out of the rain sooner.

Smithfield Canyon with Carson. Temperature was 38 degrees this morning, so I wore long sleeves, pants, and gloves. Even Carson wore long sleeves today, it was really that cold out. Legs still feel like bung. I was planning a second run today, but nixed it for more recovery. This is why I only race no more than once/month.

AM - Canal trail with Carson. Feeling recovered finally.

PM - ran home from work. Wore the Kinvara's for the first time, and like them quite a bit, definitely a very light, minimal shoe. They will likely replace my Tangents as my primary workout shoe (although they are much lighter than the Tangents). Averaged 6:32/mile for 8.75 miles.

Ran Birch Creek Canyon this morning from my house. First couple miles are on paved road, then dirt road for about 2 miles, then an old dirt two-track for a couple more miles, and then true-blue single-track for the last 1.5 miles, until I elected to turnaround due to time. It's a nice run and a beautiful day to do it. Saw a few other trail runners and a horseback rider, and that's it. Once you get to the old two-track, there are over a dozen stream crossings, every 200m or so. It's high water right now, so I just plowed through the creek rather than trying to pick a dry path (which would have been a lost cause). It was pretty fun, and the cold water felt good. Eventually I turned around at about 6900', as the trail was getting very rocky, and since I was wearing the NB 790s my feet were starting to hurt. Plus I had enough anyway. Averaged about 8:30/mile for the 15-mile run. My easy week is over now, and back to real training next week.
