i crossed paths with another runner a few times this evening.  i passed him going down one street, then caught him again when he cut straight through a block i circumnavigated.

this pattern repeated itself a few times until i began to catch him one last time going through downtown huntsville.  apparently he didn't like being passed.

the other runner markedly picked up his pace as i moved past him on the other side of the street.  i hope he didn't see me licking my chops.

as it became apparent that he wanted to test himself against me (or vice versa...), he started taking the same turns as me and matching my pace.  i picked up the pace just a bit, then let him catch back up.  again, i hope he didn't see my slight smirk of excitement.

once he caught up, i again took the pace up ever so slightly, and the process repeated itself another two or three times.

the other runner managed to last for around three quarters of a mile before fading into the night.  i don't know who he was, but he made my night.

(apologies for those sensitive to somewhat self-indulgent posts.  here, have some salt...)

Ha, that’s the best thing I’ve read all week. Nice “odd ego” race! Either way yall both had fun. You just made a new running buddy!
