Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

Picked Court up at his house and we drove to the finish line/shuttle bus pickup at Bronco Stadium.  This race has become a staple of my fall running calendar. I really enjoy it. It's grown in popularity each year that I've run it. Weather was near perfect w/ temps in the 50's at the start w/ no wind and sunshine.

They finally got wise and went to a wave start which helped alleviate some of the congestion problems that arise when all of the runners attempt to vie for space on the Boise Greenbelt.  Not unhappy w/ my time. Didn't run at all last week and I've really been eating poorly which has led to me to put on about 10 lbs in just a few weeks. Consequently, I knew that I'd have to temper my expectations and just run smooth and easy. I thought I could do something in the 42's but that turned out to be too ambitious.  Went out too fast in the first mile (6:34) but after that I settled into a more comfortable pace at or near 7:05 and held it pretty much throughout.  Court ran great and missed his sub 40 min goal by just a couple of seconds. This is probably my last race for 2011.

Definitely a decent time given the weight gain and lack of running. Hope you can still get in some good training up there through the winter. Or come down to Texas, our running season has just started!

Good job at this race, a nice finish to your racing year.

Keep running strong, but enjoy the "downtime" from training and focus on fitness, fun and passion for running (and life!).

Thanks for the comments guys. Looking forward to ramping things down a bit. I seem to be at a point of transition in my running life. I'm definitely at risk of burnout. If I had any trails near my home I'd hit them in search of a little inspiration. The best alternative I can come up with are more midday runs along the Boise River. Regards.
