Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

635AM: Easy run. It was warmer this morning so I wanted to get back outside. Little did I know that we had some freezing rain last night. Made it difficult to get any push-off. Slippery enough to feel it in every stride but not so slippery that it made you fall down. It would be interesting to calculate the actual resistance benefit of running on ice. It's got to be similar to a 2-3% grade.

Must have been slicker up where you live. I didn't notice the ice at all -- But I still ran slow.

Hmmm, that is odd. Not sure if it was freezing rain or rain that froze later on in the evening.

BTW, I wanted to pick your brain re: your success dropping a lot of weight recently. Would you attribute it to running faster (higher intensity) miles? Obviously, diet (total calories) controls a lot of it but I can't help but notice that your weight loss seemed to coincide with the change in your training regimen. IYO, are you running faster b/c you're lighter or are you lighter b/c you're running faster? Any insights?

I definitely think I'm running faster because I'm lighter. Although currently I'm feeling fat and slow, but that's just a funk I'm in right now.

Interesting. I ask only b/c I read something recently in RW regarding the increased benefits of higher intensity training. Supposedly, you burn up to 10 more calories per minute, per mile if you run a 7 min/mi pace v. 10 min/mi pace.

Yes, but if you add up those calories, it only gets you to a cheeseurger. And since you and I both know that we are capible of downing three of them ...
