Personal:

Started running in November 2007 to get fit. Now I'm back almost to square one after back surgery. I did it once and I'll do it again.

"In truth, runners don't race other runners. They race against themselves: to conquer their wills, to transcend their weaknesses, to beat back their nightmares. And while a runner can't actually beat himself, he can beat his time. Even years into running, he can get better."  Running for His Life by Michael Hall.

PM: Tonight was supposed to be an easy recovery run. And it was, until it intersected w/ a deranged psychotic farmer lady from hell. Apparently, I picked the wrong canal bank to run down and this self-appointed guardian of the canal was going to make damn sure that I paid for it.  She raced to the end of the canal bank to block me from leaving and broke out her cellphone to take my picture and record our exchange.

I tried to get past her and she kept trying to block me.  I didn't want to touch her for fear that she would say I battered her. At first I was pissed and then it got downright comical. Eventually she let me pass but she followed me in her truck for a couple of miles, all the while demanding my name, rank and serial number. I didn't give it to her of course and she thought she would just tail me to my residence. I ran alongside her and recommended that she seek professional help and maybe try some medication, lithium or prozac might do the trick.  I let her vent and curse for awhile but then I grew tired of her act.  A few MP miles and fartleks later I was able to shake her and arrive home, none the worse for wear. What an effing psycho!

That is funny now that you can look back at it is retrospect..kinda scary at the time I am sure as you aren't quite sure what wacko's in Idaho are carrying.

Glad you made it home safely. Make sure to tell other runners that this route is off limits due to the wicked witch!

Should I have someone dress up and chase you down the canyon on Saturday to keep your motivation high?

Haha. Maybe you could play the music from Wizard of Oz too? You know where the mean Miss Gulch/Wicked Witch of the West is pedaling her bicycle in the tornado? I'd run my please do not swear off if I heard that. LOL.

Maybe now you will learn to stay away from my canal, punk!
