| | Went 5 today with Ron and Bayly. Not a good day. My form was all over the place and my legs felt like stone. Bayly and Ron ran good! |
| | Ran 5 with the XC team. It was an easy run for them. They are all teen agers. For us old folks it was a speed workout trying to keep up with them. Good day. The sun was out and my legs felt great. Running in town is a nice change. |
| | Another "speed workout" with the XC team. It was their recovery run after a hard workout yesterday. I managed to stay about 30 seconds behind them. Are they speeding up as they get to the end of the run? Oh yea. Three mile tempo run with the team tomorrow. | |
| |
Took the dogs on a 3 mile run/walk. Bayly wanted to run the whole way, but Maggie's little short legs could not keep up. The sun was shining (finally). The road was a muddy mess. The dogs enjoyed it until we came home and they had to clean up. It was a great day to be outside. This fall has not been warm or dry so it was nice to have a chance to take advantage of a good day.
State XC is in 2 days. The girls have done so well this year and we have had so much fun. None of us are excited about it all being over. Training for the Fargo Marathon will start in a few weeks, so I am just going to enjoy running and taking in God's creation for a few weeks. Need to find Bayly's orange and mine to get ready for our hunting season runs. She will be happy, she has not been out as much this fall and I can notice it in her attitude. Her barking had been a little much lately. And every time I put on my running shoes she thinks she gets to go, too. |
| | Great day for a run. Unfortunately I was busy all day and ended up on the treadmill tonight (yawn). Hopefully tomorrow Bayly and I can get outside for some mileage before the rain starts again. Started lifting some weights again. My legs always feel stronger when I lift regularly. I should keep it up, but I find it SO boring. I always find some reason not to. Then I get out of the routine and here I am again starting over. |
| |
The road was dry, the air was warm, and the sun was kind of out. Oh, and the wind was blowing (big surprise). Bayly enjoyed herself and did not find a skunk so it was a good day. My legs felt a little heavy at first, but things got better and I felt great when I finished. I miss XC, but it is kind of nice to be on my own schedule. |
| | Didn't have much time today and it was rainy and muddy (again). Did a 3 mile "hill run" on the treadmill. I wish the weather would improve. (sigh) |
| | What a day! The sun was glorious and I felt like I could run forever today. My legs felt awesome! Bayly was a muddy mess and Ron struggled a little but it was a great day for a run! |
| | Nice easy fun run outside in the sun! The day was great and I felt great. The road was dry, the temp was around 45. It looks like the weather is calming down and warming up. Good thing, since all the rivers are above flood stage again and we don't want a repeat of last spring next spring. The weather guy said it was the third wettest October on record. Also lifted weights. My legs definately feel better when I do weights. |
| |
Treadmill today. Got new shoes yesterday. I had a gift cert. and the sales guy talked me into trying Brooks. I don't know, I still really like my Sauconys.

The weather has finally improved! October was a long, dreary depressing month. The sun was bright and the wind was blowing, but I didn't mind, it is drying things out. My legs felt great and Bayly was in dog heaven with all the sights and smells of fall. Glorious sunset! Also lifted weights Quote for the day: "We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an aweful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort."--Jesse Owens

| | Opening weekend so I stayed in town. Ran the truck route a few times and a mile on the track. Dog chased me so I had to alter my route. Roughly 5.50 miles. Took the dogs for a walk (or they walked me) later in the day. To nice to be inside. |
| | Four miles on the treadmill. Three miles on the bike and lifted weights. Took Sunday and Monday off. Not feeling 100% this week. And of course the weather is gorgeous! Staying close to town since hunting season started. With the warm weather there are alot more people out and about. Bayly is not happy. She is ready for long run. |
| | Ran around truck route with Ron. Gotta love this weather! |
| | Treadmill. Leg weights. First day of official training! Can't waite for hunting season to end. |
| |
3x around the truck route. Yawn. Hunting is over and Bayly and I are ready to get out to our regular route. Now I suppose the good weather will head south for the winter. Signed up for the Jingle Bell run. Running the Red Kettle Run on Thursday. Ah! what a day. Run and then spend the rest of the day eating! |
| |
Tempo run. 8.37 pace. I have a long way to go in the next 25 weeks. Ron says that's why they call it training. :) Bayly ran her usual 4 minute mile pace. Oh, to be a dog with long legs.
Quote for the day: "If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." --John Bingham |
| | Red Kettle Run. The entry fee was a food item for the Salvation Army, no timing just a nice run. Ron and Kaylie went 3 miles. Sun was out, temp about 20. No snow yet, yea! It was nice to run on pavement for a change. Ran it in about 41 minutes. Felt great! |
| |
Nice sunny day. Temp in the low 40's. Just an easy long run with Bayly and Ron. Can't believe this weather for the last of November. |
| | Got home late. Treadmill at 7.0-7.5 |
| | Tempo run. Wind was howling out of the north temp, 35. Didn't even take my watch since I was pushing the wind one way and it was at my back the other way. Not to accurate for timing. It was a good run though. Getting colder. No snow yet on the horizon. My hip is hurting off and on again, especially when I sit. |

Jingle Bell Run (3.1 Miles) 25:29:00, Place overall: 93, Place in age division: 2 | | Had a great time. Our team won the Spirit Award! The temp. was 5 and the streets were a little icy, but spirits were high and everyone was having so much fun nobody seemed to notice the wintery conditions. There were 498 runners and walkers. |
| | Temp was a balmy 5 but there wasn't any wind so it was a pretty nice day. The road is finally froze. No mud until April! Bayly had a nice set of whiskercicles. |
| | The temp. barly got off 0 and the wind was howling out of the north, there was a nasty windchill so my tempo run was on the treadmill. (8:13 pace) I think we are going to become good friends this winter. (sigh) Training in the northern plains in the winter is going to by my greatest challenge. Staying injury free will be my next greatest challenge. Counting down the days until the darkest day, then we will be on the up side again! |

Wind chill advisory. Treadmill. This is getting old already.
Quote for the day:
"pressure is nothing more than the shadow of great opportunity."--Michael Johnson |
| | Treadmill again. Temp. is -9 and the windchill is -25. Ran 4 with a 6.5 warmup then a 7.0-7.5 pace. Decided to give Boston a break. A little U2, Journey and Jeremy Camp. Hopefully I can get outside tomorrow for a long run. Temps are supposed to be in the teens with little wind. Yea! |
| | Got to run outside before the wind hit. Temp. was -4 and only a light breeze. My legs felt good and I didn't notice the cold after the first half-mile. Everything kind of numbs so it isn't too bad after that. Supposed to be below 0 temps until Thursday. Then they are talking 20. Yea! T-shirt weather :) |
| | Temp. 10, no wind and a gorgeous evening. Would have stayed out longer but supper was calling. |
| |
Since my weekend is looking more busy than first thought I decided to do my long run today. And what a day! The sky was blue, the sun was shining (kind of anemic this time of year) the birds were singing. Ok, only the sparrows who don't have sense enough to fly south for the winter. Temp. was 25 and a light breeze with a bit of a bite to it. But I didn't need quite as many layers or a face mask. Everything felt great! Bayly is a little stiff tonight and needed her joint meds. But she had fun. So many sniffs so little time. :) A few more days and the sun starts heading our way again, yea! |
| | Ended up taking 3 days off. Intended to only take off 2. Great day to be outside, although the road has just enough snow to make it a little slippery. My folks came up from Colorado so I took their dog, Winchester with. Winchester is a bit on the beefy side but he kept up with Bayly for most of the 5 miles. My knees did not feel real great, could be because of the days off. |
| | Another great day for a run. Took Winchester again, he was not quite as perky today so I cut it short. My knees still bothered me but not as bad. Weather is supposed to get nasty just in time for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Hopefully, it will stay south of us. |
| |
Treadhills, then church, then supper, then presents. :) |
| | Waited until today to do my long run. I was hoping the roads would be clear enough and the wind would not be so strong. Unfortunately the roads are still clogged, or really slippery and the wind is still a factor. So I did 9 on the treadmill and I hope I never have to go that far in one place again. We got at least 15 inches and it blew for 2 days now we really have alot of snow and it will be here until April, so running outside just became a real challlenge. Spring marathons are kind of a pain to train for unless you like the treadmill. I suppose it wouldn't matter as much if I didn't care what time I got or if I wasn't trying to stick to a training plan. At least the sun is shining! :) |
| |
The east/west roads are in pretty good shape. The north/south roads are snow covered, but not slick. Temp. was 14 with a light wind. The snow was crunchy and the sun was brilliant and everything looked crisp. It was a good run! Wind chills come back tomorrow through the weekend.
My folks left yesterday. Should be home tonight. They said the roads were good. Might be some snow on I-70 through the mountains, that is to be expected. I have been a bit of a slacker over Christmas and "fell off the wagon". Yes, I indulged in many Dr. Peppers while my folks were here. Time to get back into the routine. Happy New Year! |
