Ugh! Definitely my least enjoyable race since my 2 disasterous marathons in 2012. I love racing and after 40 plus years of it, I'm pretty good at assessing my capabilities beforehand. Usually I finish within a few seconds of whatever I think I can run. Usually I enjoy the competition. But not today.

Mile 1 - 6:06

Mile 2 - 6:22

Mile 3 - 6:27

Mile 4 - 6:37 (from this point on, I had no positive thoughts. Only negative self-talk)

Mile 5 - 6:49

Mile 6 - 7:28 ( walked twice. Gave up)

.2 - 1:37

Might not be ready to race a quality 10k yet. They're hard to fake. Probably should have gone out in 6:20.

Of well, they can't all be winners. I shall live to fight another day.

PM: 2 mile jog/1 mile walk.

Bummer. Indeed- live and learn. Fight another day.

How did you do in your age group this time?

I am sure with a time like that you must have placed high up.

Anyway, stay positive! :)

Reasonably solid effort for most of the race Rob - but you’ve been at this a long time and they don’t always go as well as we’d like them to. Nice job and good perspective- you’ll get it on your next one.

Sometimes getting to the starting line is a win.

I really appreciate all the encouragement y'all.

absolutely right in that you can’t fake the 10k. nice job regardless, hopefully this was just fuel for the fire for you.

Nice mindset at the end of "just move on to fight another day." I think that's what has made you such a lifelong racer. Not surprised you were a coach for so long.
