I've been a little bummed this week about the resignation of Utah Attorney General John Swallow. Not bummed because he resigned - he needed to - but because I know him and his family fairly well. I voted for his opponent, but I wished him well when he entered the AG's office in January. His son Taylor was on my cross country team and in my AP U.S. class. I've had all his kids in class and they are fantastic people.

A cautionary tale I guess. He was accused of more ethics and campaign law violations than I can even list. Ambition run amok. Maybe attorneys general should be appointed by the governor just as the U.S. AG is appointed by the president. Seems like one job that should be above politics as much as possible and the whole process of fund raising is corrupting.

Anyway, I wish his family luck.

You're a modern day Jeff Galloway!

Isn't Jeff Galloway a modern day Jeff Galloway?

Hard to know. I don't gallowalk anymore. Crossfit endurance took over that slot in my training.

Modern day Jeff Galloway...haha!

I helped prepare state and FEC reports for several of my employers' clients many years ago and got to see how campaigning worked on the back side. One thing that has always remained with me since then is that there is no excuse to not know campaign laws. Ignorance or stupidity won't help you if the FEC comes down on you; you have to get someone who knows what they're doing to do it right in the first place.

I don't know Swallow from anyone else, but I'm glad to see this mess come to an end so that he and his family (and the rest of the AG's office) can heal and move forward. It's good to see what you wrote, though, so that people can be reminded that there is a personal cost to all of this politicking.
