AM: 3 miles walk with a little jogging. Lots of stretching after. Off to my Sunday School teaching gig now.

PM: 5.25 miles around the neighborhood. Close to 60 and sunny, clean air, perfect.

I'm kind of sore today. Might sit round and read a lot. I ordered The Science of Running  by Steve Magness but it ain't here yet! Looking forward to that one.

PPM: 2 mile walk with Ann. Spent way too much time this afternoon following the USATF women's 3000 debacle.

I am frightened for those sunday school kids. Prof. Murphy telling it how it is.

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Feb 23, 2014 at 12:24:12 from

It was Jesus healing the ten lepers today Josh. But this being the Presbyterian Church, we were cautioned not to say "lepers". Too stigmatized. Instead we said "sick people".

Are you teaching regular Sunday school, or AP?

USATF and Nike OP should both be ashamed of themselves. They won't be, though!

The more I watch the replay of the race, the more mad I get. Who doesn't get clipped in and indoor race on a banked 200 meter track? Hasay wasn't going anywhere or doing anything. I really hope she backs out. This could really blow up in USATF's face big time.

From Jake K on Sun, Feb 23, 2014 at 19:23:18 from

I actually feel bad for Hasay... she's in a tough spot now. I doubt she had anything to do w/ the protests and appeals. AlSal appears to be on a rampage - I mean c'mon, why get Bumbi DQ'd? For making a nation champs race honest? God forbid!!

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Feb 23, 2014 at 19:26:19 from

I agree with you 100% on Hasay. She's definitely between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully this will force Salazar to take stock of his own ego.

I crack myself up!

What do you think Lagat's last lap was worth, age-graded? 21.2? :-)

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Feb 23, 2014 at 19:33:08 from

He's amazing Jake. Did you see the USATF appeals process map I re-tweeted?

From Jake K on Sun, Feb 23, 2014 at 20:09:16 from

Yeah that thing was great :-)

Sad that it is TRUE!

From Steve on Mon, Feb 24, 2014 at 18:00:56 from

Apparently it's re-reversed today. USATF looks like a bunch of idiots.

From steve ash on Mon, Feb 24, 2014 at 18:33:45 from

But.. at the risk of sounding jerky, the thing is does anyone really care?

From steve ash on Mon, Feb 24, 2014 at 18:39:51 from

Sorry guys I'ts just that whole thing seems so political and petty..

From Jake K on Mon, Feb 24, 2014 at 18:55:43 from

Not jerky at all Steve. If it wasn't for Letsrun, very few people would know or care.

And that is a shame.

From Letsrun... this is what Andrea and I were talking about last night... how Hasay "dropping" he appeal still doesn't make any sense... USATF doesn't know how to interpret their own rules... this is pretty much the analogy to what is happening...

Picture this:

NFL game. A team snaps the ball on 4th down.

They are tackled just short of the goal.

The offensive coach throws a challenge flag.

In essence, protests the call.

The officials decide that on further review, it's a touchdown.

They win the game with the help of that score.

Then the next day, the coach says he revokes the challenge.

They take back the score and the other team wins.

That would be ridiculous wouldn't it?

From Steve on Tue, Feb 25, 2014 at 12:50:08 from

I agree, it's ridiculous. Sometimes when things like this happen you have to accept the most obvious reason. USATF caved under pressure from Salazar. There was mild evidence of contact so the DQ was issued. But when people reacted very negatively, and publicly, and no new conclusive evidence was found, a face saving solution for everyone was found. I'd guarantee Nike PR wrote that statement from Hasay. Rules had to be set aside a little. I like the solution really. The right person won.

From Rob Murphy on Tue, Feb 25, 2014 at 20:23:14 from

I've resigned from USATF so I won't be a force on the circuit this year.
