Nice run around Sugar House Park after I got home from work. Had a nice talk with my boys at practice today how we might make it to the state meet with 3 freshmen and a sophomore on the varsity despite being in the same region as Timpview, Timpanogos, Provo, Orem, Mountain View, and Corner Canyon.

Today is Ann's birthday which is always a good day because we met on her 25th birthday back in 1992 in Greenville, SC. I was invited to a surprise party for her by a friend of mine who was dating a friend of hers. The first thing she ever said to me was a comment on the large veins in my forearms and how she appreciated that as a nurse. I was running a fair amount then and I remember I had just run a 10:17 two mile in an Army PT test a couple weeks earlier. We went on our first date a week later. We had dinner in downtown Greenville and then went to see a movie called "Hero" with Dustin Hoffman and Andy Garcia. After that we drove north on Highway 25 to and just drove around the mountains of western North Carolina in my Toyota pickup until about 2 am. Stopped for coffee in Hendersonville. When we got back to her apartment she told me to wait for a second and she ran inside. She came out a minute later with a bottle of windex and some paper towels and cleaned the inside of my windshield. She was worried about me not being able to see.

Today we got take out from Pei Wei and had cake and ice cream that Abby made.

I just realized, the internet didn't really exist at that time. I'm not sure what I did with my time, how I learned things ( books maybe?), or established relationships.

Yep, a pretty good day.

That's a great story. I can't believe you gave away Ann's age. Happy 38th!!

In similar fashion to Ann's concern about your vision on the road, shortly after our first date, Andrea made me get new glasses because she realized I couldn't see while driving at night.

Jake - well, you have to to some pretty advanced math to figure it out.

Best wishes to Ann, Rob. That's a great story too.

I can see race times from blog years but given the humble descriptions under "Running Accomplishments" that 10:17 PT test gives me a better sense of the beast within. I imagine that's a fast PT time (it's fast anyway).

based on the two mile PT times i often witnessed from the groups running at liberty park, that has to be one of the fastest times the army has ever seen.

loved the story. runners and their eye-catching veins. :) happy birthday, ann.

The thing with the 2 mile run in the APFT is that it comes right after you max out on 2 minutes of push-ups and 2 minutes of sit-ups, so it's hard to run a really good time.

I'm just impressed you can remember your 2-mile time down to the second...from a race that was eleventeen years ago (I can't do advanced math).

Ha! That sounds like Ann.
