Finished second in the Pocatello Half today to a kid that was born the year I ran my first marathon. Bet I could have beat him back then!

Ran just behind, with, or just ahead of Jeff Shadley the entire way. I actually thought I had a pretty good lead on him at the end so I was surprised to turn around and see him crossing just a little over 10 seconds after me. He's one tough racer just a week after a 2:48 marathon.

My goal was to run a decent time without running so hard that it compromised my training for Twin Cities and I feel I accomplished that. This is a tough course, rolling hills the entire way and a prety good headwind much of the way. Jeff and I took turns drafting for a while.

As always, one of the best organized, pleasant, awesome for families, races I run each year. Had a great time with the Shadley family at the hotel last night and at the finish today. We all went swimming at the super cool Pocatello pool after.

Did I mention they had beer at the finish? They wouldn't let me have one because I didn't have an ID!!!! Not even after I showed them my Masters trophy. But the punk who was born the year I ran my first marathon was walking around with one.

Congrats! Good race...I didn't get a Beer either but I thought that was kind of funny.

Congrats Rob - nice work. Sounds like you guys had a good time.

Nice job, Rob. Can't believe they wanted ID.

From Jake K on Sat, Sep 03, 2011 at 21:38:09 from 67.2.56.151

I can't believe a master's trophy isn't valid ID! And I guess I've already been living in Utah too long... I forgot that there are road races that have beer trucks at the finish line area :-)

Nice race!

Great race today. I definitely want to do this event in the next few years - everyone seems to rave about it. Tough luck on the no beer, though. I'm pretty sure if I drank after a race I would be gone after one drink!

Great race on a tough course. That Zack kid was a tough runner...but no more so than us old guys!!!

Too bad about the beer...it sure tasted good! Though I had to let Kami finish mine because I was getting light headed!

Great to see you and the family for the event, it is always a pleasure. See you soon!

Beer fiasco: I would have been ecstatic that they needed my ID!! You must be looking very young and debonnaire, my friend!!! :) :) :)

Congrats on another incredibly fast race (and making no wrong turns). :) :) :)

Hashbrowns?

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Sep 04, 2011 at 00:15:53 from 98.202.141.17

Made me laugh Teena. Thanks.

No hash browns this year. Still got the bag of potatos and the cool race bag though.

Congrats on your race Rob. It was nice to get to meet you finally. I see your posts so often and hear so much about you through Jeff, it is nice to put a face with the name finally.

Way to give the young ones a run for their money! That beer story is hilarious! Who carries their ID at races?

From Steve on Sun, Sep 04, 2011 at 13:35:09 from 99.204.249.43

I'm laughing so hard about that beer right now! Sweet run Rob.

Nice race Rob! Tear it up at Twin Cities!

From Burt on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 03:17:59 from 72.223.91.148

I must admit, I chuckled when I saw your 2nd place in the race results. You've come to be known by me as the guy that never gets 1st. (Maybe you do, but I've missed all those reports :P)

Anyway, great job, and kudos to the people who wouldn't break the law to give someone a beer without an ID.

Kind of hard to rack up too many firsts at 46 Burt!

From Burt on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 11:17:29 from 72.223.91.148

No disrespect because I think you're awesome. But it's kind of become comical because I've heard you mention it, and I just thought I'd let you know. I am totally rooting for you to win the big one of these days.

I will say this. You just need to enter some small 5k or something. Even I've been the flat out winner of a race. That's right, me. So go out and see who's doing a fundraiser and hop in the race. Then you'll get the 1st place, even if it has an asterisk by it. Bloggers don't judge each other by asterisks. ;) And remember, even Phil Mickelson finally won the big one.

From Walter on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 11:38:19 from 24.2.69.110

Rob, that is hilarious! See, running has made you look younger! What are you doing with your dads Masters trophy? Trying to sneak a beer? Great job out there!
