I took the day off as I asn't able to make it to the gym and I don't feel like running outside when I can't see Mt. Olympus from my house.

Seeing Wilco tonight at Red Butte Garden. I'm on a cocert roll like when I was in my 20s or something.

My top all-time concerts

1. REM with The Minutemen opening - Township Auditorium, Columbia SC, 1985

2. Tom Petty with The Replacements, USF Sun Dome

3. Neil Young with Sonic Youth and Social Distortion, USF Sun Dome, 1989

4. REM all by themselves at The Ups Club, Greenville SC, 1983.

5. REM (I like REM) with Fetchin Bones at the Mud Island Ampitheater, Memphis Tn.

6. Johnny Cash with The Jayhawks at The Orpheum Theater, Minneapolis Mn, 1994

7. Tom Petty with Jackson Browne, The E Center, SLC, 2005

8. The Who, Coca Cola Apmitheater, Atlanta Ga, 1988

9. All shows by The V-Roys at The Handlebar in Greenville SC

10. Jason Isbell at The Depot, SLC, last Friday

#1 embarassment of my life - I've never seen Bruce Springsteen. Hands down my favorite band I've never seen. Still time though.

I'd put U2 at Williams Bryce Stadium on the list from 1992 but I don't like stadium concerts. It was pretty good though.

Wow Rob, great list! #1 & #3 ... !!!

Begin the Begin is a great pre-race song. Stereotypical to say, but Perfect Circle still works for me every time.

I've seen Sonic Youth a few times. They were insanely good.

We should hang out sometime Drew.

Wilco was great last night. Jeff tweedy publicly shamed a guy for staring at his phone in the front row during a guitar solo.

I am not sure Abby and Andy know how cool their dad is. Tom Petty with the Replacements would have been awesome. I saw Tom Petty and the Black Crowes in college. Would love to have seen Neil Young, Social Distortion, and Sonic Youth as well.

This post got me thinking of some great shows I've seen. Most of them were at Jannus Landing. I don't think I've seen a bad show there. Violent femmes, beasties, pearl jam, etc. Great venue.

Sweet list, Rob. Yes, seeing Bruce in Tallahassee in 1984 is in my top 5, along with Genesis at the Citrus Bowl in '86 or '87 - stadium concert, but we were on the ground about 50 rows back so it worked quite well. Seems like you coulda invited your old buddy to one of those REM shows in SC - hmph :)

That would have been the Born in the USA tour when Bruce was at the height of his powers. I remember Marni road tripping to Raleigh to see him in 84. Can't remember why I didn't but then again, most of 1984 is a blur.

Tom - I saw a bunch of shows at Janus Landing including Jason and the Scorchers in the mid 80s. Wouldn't take much arm twisting to put that show in my top 10.

Also, we used to journey to Athens and Atlanta Ga to places like the 40 Watt Club and the 688 Club. Too many good bands to mention!

Jason - That Neil Young show was the best. Social Distortion and Sonic Youth went first and they were young, upcoming bands at the time. Lots of the audience was there to see the opening acts, not Neil Young. Then Young, the dinosaur, comes on with Crazy Horse and blew both those bands away.

This post is resulting in Rock n Roll marathon ads at the top of my page. That's an atrocity anywhere near your list.

As a Neil Young fan, did you ever see CSN (& Y)? I would them in my top 10 I think.

Nice list. You just get cooler and cooler, and the high-school kids stay the same.

Ever seen The Black Crowes or Fugazi? Those bands could rip.
