Alarm went off at 2:30 this morning. The dog started harassing me right away so I took him for a quick walk and fed him. He's used to thinking that his day starts when I get up I guess.

Had a cliff bar and some juice and a cup of coffee. Took a shower and headed to the gym at about 3:30.

Ran 30 miles on the treadmill in 3:57. The slow pace is because I had it in my mind that I might run as many as 40 miles and I didn't want to push it. But I quit at 30 because I was kind of tired and loosing interest in the run. Kept the incline at 1.5% the whole way.

Not sure why I did this run? I did it on the treadmill because it's way easier on my foot.

Now I'm home in time for Ann to go to yoga and to take the kids to church. I'll probably nap some this afternoon.

Third longest run ever after my two Grand Canyon runs.

PM: Hiking and picnicking with the family in Mill Creek Canyon. Legs feel good. Foot kind of achy.

Wow - 30 miles on the treadmill? That's fantastically crazy. Nice job this morning.

The mileage board is yours for the taking this week! :-)

Great run Rob.

That must have worked out a few kinks in your system. I'm trying to imagine what four hours on a treadmill would feel like. The gym should send you their power bill.

From Rob Murphy on Sun, May 06, 2012 at 11:36:59 from 24.10.249.165

There were three other people in the gym at 3:30. A romantic couple in the hot tub and one dude lifting weights seriously. I got at least 15 miles in before other people started showing up which spared me having to explain to people what I was doing.

Oh, thanks Rob!

From Rob on Sun, May 06, 2012 at 11:42:07 from 204.15.84.2

You're welcome!

Someone once called me that for a similar endeavor.

From Fritz on Sun, May 06, 2012 at 11:50:07 from 173.10.22.170

Losing interest after only 30 miles? How can that be? Ok, I won't question the sanity of the run because I sort of get it but can you explain why the shower came before the gym?

Nice run to say the least.

From Rachelle on Sun, May 06, 2012 at 14:02:36 from 66.7.127.115

haha! Just your average Sunday. Woke up took a shower and then ran 30 miles. No big deal!

Anything good on TV at 3:30 in the morning?

From Rob Murphy on Sun, May 06, 2012 at 14:09:23 from 24.10.249.165

Fritz - the shower is because I had to wait a little bit for my food to digest and I needed it to make me feel human and wake me up.

Rachelle - on the gym TV's they had infomercials, Sports Center, and reruns of Mad Men.

Rob - I remember now. Your treadmill marathon time trial right? I guess I deserved it.

good job. thanks for swinging by the park to let us know that we were already three-upped for the day.

i hope you have had several more chocolate milks and a nap today.

From prlman on Sun, May 06, 2012 at 17:47:34 from 24.2.66.149

Wow props to you for surviving 4 hours on the treadmill. You are a running maniac. Hope the ab's workout infomercials kept you motivated.

From Bret on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 07:42:39 from 64.128.133.66

Ipod?

If nothing else, this is a great mental toughness effort - cannot imagine pushing that many hours on the TM.

From jtshad on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 08:16:27 from 204.134.132.225

That is absolutely nuts! Wow, hope the foot held up ok.

From scottkeate on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 09:27:14 from 216.49.181.254

Unlike Fritz, I can't imagine who in their right mind would do 30 miles on a treadmill. That is crazy! Even crazier to do it at 3:30 on a Sunday morning.

Even though I think you're crazy, it does make me hold you in reverential awe.

Nice work!

From rockness18 on Mon, May 07, 2012 at 18:29:55 from 75.9.135.63

Are you kidding me? I get it though. Hope the foot gets better soon.

From Teena Marie on Tue, May 08, 2012 at 00:04:25 from 174.27.199.63

So ... seriously ... I just finished a semester of neuroanatomy where we dissected several human brains. Now, I don't mean this in a creepy way (I am NOT creepy) BUT ... what I wouldn't give to see what in the heck yours looks like!!! :)

From Jon on Tue, May 08, 2012 at 04:44:54 from 74.177.127.77

Wow- 30 miles? Davy might be the only guy I can think of on the FRB who has done a treadmill run that long. Crazy.

From Billy Lillyman on Wed, May 09, 2012 at 09:11:27 from 76.23.33.34

Wow.

Hope the foot feels better soon!
