Two runs today. I was out the door at 5 am for an easy six. Then ran seven in the afternoon in the Dimple Dell gully in Sandy with some of my team - Ryan Fuller, Griffin Long, and Brandon Gardenhire. Very cold and rainy, changing to sleet, the whole way. Very hard core! We congratulated ourselves for our dedication when we finished.

One more thing... I recived in the mail today a book called "Be Fit or Be Damned" by the legendary Australian coach Percy Cerutty. It was written in 1967 and is out of print, so I paid a ridiculous amount for it on Amazon. But I'm a schoolteacher, so it's not a problem. Its cramed full of old school wisdom and Cerutty's "stotan" (stoic + spartan) philosophy.

Yeah, it takes dedication and especially on days like this! Doubles are kinda tricky to get used to, but have been pretty effective for me. It was only when I ran doubles in my build up did I ever PR. That is as long as I didn't crash with too much speed and over train. LOl!

I can tell I'm gonna love this book. The man is a quote machine - always appreciated by high school coaches like myself. From the books dedication page... "This book is dedicated to all those who, realising that modern man, whilst becoming increasingly economically richer, is becoming increasingly physically unfitter. The dedication, then, is to all those who would do something about it before there unfitness spoils the possibility of their enjoyment of the life they have helped create, or it becomes too late to do anything about it at all".

I don't know much about the man except he was quite the taskmaster at times but he had some great success stories. Are his training philosophies anything like Arthur Lydiard's? This may be a good one to read next I think as I have been looking for some new material lately anyway.

Steve, I'd be glad to lend it to you when I'm done. You can swing by Alta High some day.
