A BIG HUGE HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS TO MY BUDDY BRET (BRET.FASTRUNNINGBLOG.COM) FOR HIS 3:01:17 AT THE NEW YORK MARATHON TODAY!!!! THIS IS A SEVERAL MINUTE PR FOR HIM MANY, MANY YEARS AFTER HIS LAST PR.

Bret and I were high school teammates in Dunedin Florida back in the early 1980s. He doesn't know it, but he will be running 2:50 or faster within a year.

I'm really sore today and my right hammy is really tight today, so I just went for a three mile walk.Still bummed about yesterdays race, but I'm really encouraged by what I would have run. The more I think about it, the more certain I am that I would have run a 1:14 or faster. I think now that I can run a 1:13 at Austin in January so I'm going to make that the focus of my training.

LOL! Ok that's just made me laugh. For some reason I awoke spontaneously this morning at 4 am and could not go back to sleep so I figured I would check your blog to see how your race went on Saturday - And this is the first thing that came up. Thanks very much for the advice, encouragement and coaching Rob - and the inspiration to believe I can go faster even as I am getting older.

Love the new picture Rob..Austin is fast, not downhill fast like some of these around here, but a nice course with the biggest group of guys our age and speed you will run with. We gotta do some training together. I will be looking at my schedule to find some times we can hit some training. I am still just taking it easy but in two weeks I'll be phasing in some speed. My girls actually asked yesterday when we were going to do something with you guys again. What about Saturday morning? I'll be in SLC with the kids Friday evening for that USATF masters stuff.
