17.5 (2:12:30) miles in a chilly rain on the Jordan River Parkway. Ran generally easy but over the last few miles I alternated hard/easy 400s. The hard efforts were 80 to 85 seconds.

First seventy mile week in a while which is pretty much where I will top out this year. There are few things I know for certain in this world, but one is that I can't handle much over 70 mpw for an extended period. The good news is that my body doesn't seem to need much more for the times I want to run.

Here's something I was wondering today. Why is it that cities and towns in Utah often put the word "city" after their name? For example, "Sandy City". I obviously understand it when the word is actually part of the name as in Kansas City or Salt Lake City. I never heard of Anaheim City or San Diego City when I was growing up.

Is this just one on Utah's many endearing little quirks?

Great week of running Rob.

Maybe we add the city to distinguish them from the many neighbohoods/townships such as sugar house, millcreek and the avenues. Just a guess. And not adding city to "Salt Lake" would just be weird.

Good way to cap off the week. I like the alternating quarters at the end.

Would not have been a pleasant Jeremy Ranch day...

Cities are usually incorporated. Better Utah tax benefits. I think 75 mpw (my new fav phrase) is about my productive distance too. I only run more if I'm bored with the whole idea of training.

I also got Andy a new rocket this week. Need a different park though

Of course, there's also this little ditty about Utah town names:

Nice mileage week Rob. You gearing up for Deseret News?

Bret - I am planning on it but I have the Utah Valley Half in a couple weeks and the Bjorklund Half in late June that I'm more focused on.
