Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Marion and I met this morning, she biked and I walked, ran.  I was in such a good mood when we met that I just started jogging, and she said, "What are you doing?"  At least she remembered I needed a walking warm up.  Walked 3, ran 6, walked 1, 10.08 total, running ave pace 8:33.

It is amazing how much ground we covered (metaphorically) talking as we walked.  At the end we came up with a plan for the next several months and we pinky swore.  The plan is to break the rest of the year in three segments -- from now til November 6th, from Nov 6th - Thanksgiving, and from Thanksgiving to Christmas.  I need to lose 2 lbs during each of those segments, and I plan on doing it by going back to counting my calories, and exercise enough to cover reasonable eating and the necessary caloric deficit.  That should bring me down to 130 by New Years.  My weight does fluctuate, so I'll count 136 as my starting weight, since I did hit 135.6 a couple of times last week, 134.6 once, but I have been 137.0 the last two days.  Anyone else care to pinky swear?

We don't have to be 100% dietarily virtuous.  With eating, 98% virtuosity is acceptable.

Pre run:

100 cal Granola bar

Post run:

400 cal 1 1/2 c. oatmeal with scant 1/4 c. dried blueberries, 1 tbsp packed brown sugar, 1 c milk

I like the dietary virtuosity percentage ;) I didn't weigh this morning. I'll go post my plans. I am starting at 172....or maybe 171....hmmmmmm. COME GET THE FUDGE!!!

I'll pinky swear on that. Didn't weigh myself this morning, so will do so tomorrow.

Sounds like a good plan!

I saw your cars this morning. I was hoping to run into you two out running. What would be better than to hear Michelle's and Marion's laugh at 6:30 am! I should have ran down canal road instead of the to the mail boxes. Sounds like a good pinky promise. Do you still want the chocolate fountain?

From marion on Tue, Oct 13, 2009 at 13:37:46 from 71.213.119.74

YES!!!! Your chocolate fountain is the only thing keeping me strong! ;)

PS- we started at 5am! I am surprised you did not hear us. Next time we will make a loop around your house :)
