Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

3.6ish walking with Marion, who is wonderful!

Running 4 miles, 8:15 ave pace.  Worked in the wee hours then exercised at 9am, but the sun was behind the clouds.  At least it wasn't dark.  So glad it was light so the impatient minivan lady could see us, get irritated at us, and flip us off.  I thought it was pretty funny, but Marion didn't.

Ben has his flag football championships this evening, so I'll get in more walking this evening, along with abs (I do abs Tu, Th, Sat for those of you who are DYING to know :D).

PM:  Ben had two games, I walked 7.25 miles, stretched and did abs before/during/between games.  Geeky but clairvoyant - I thought I wouldn't be able to do a lot of training Friday, and boy was I right.

First 15 mile day in a long time.  Sure, most of it was walking, but that makes it even harder.

Thank you so much for getting me outside today :) YOU are a great friend! I am so very sorry about my horrid reaction to the minivan devil lady. I need to repent.

Marion is wonderful, isn't she? She's so wonderful I bet she flipped impatient minivan lady back off. That's what I like about Marion.

Marion would never, Burt, how dare you suggest it. (Should we make him chew on soap for suggesting such a thing?).

I was totally dying to know!!! You make me laugh!

Nice job on the miles.

Btw, I heard some super fast women talking about you at Dr. Toronto's office a few days before SGM. I wanted to interupt them, because they had your "injury" wrong. But kept my mouth shut.

They were talking about how talented you are!!

I can't remember their names. I think one was Julie (took 2nd at TOU) and the other's name was ... stink ... I can't remember. She has ran a 2:40 and her husband's name is Dennis.

That would be Michelle Simonitis. And actually I am pretty sure Marion didn't, but I didn't store her body language in my permanent file. Most things go in and out in this brain.

From Teena on Thu, Oct 08, 2009 at 17:24:16 from 67.177.20.13

I wanted to say, "Hey ... I know her too!!" But felt far too inferior to be talking to them! :)

One of the things that I so admire about you, Michelle is that you are so down to earth and easy to talk to. You always make people feel like a million bucks ... even when we run so much slower than you! You really are amazing that way.

I just think you are GREAT!!!

From Burt on Thu, Oct 08, 2009 at 17:36:31 from 68.76.197.194

Yeah. I can't stay mad at you even when you stuff soap down my throat.

What happens/is said on the run, oops, I mean walk, stays on the walk. This is just one more reason I will love Michelle forever ;)

Burt- it's ok- you don't need to eat the soap :D MIchelle is very sweet to defend my honor and pead dementia :)

NICE WALK/NO RUNNING with the "don't-mess-with-me Marion"! :)

How did flag football championship go for Ben? We went to our son's football game last night. He made a 80 yard return touch down...the only bright moment of the torturous game. Lehi is the worst team in the entire nation. So SAD! But I'm so proud of Steven busting his guts and playing his heart out. I'm not saying it 'cause he's my son. He truly carried the team...a team with no depth nor talent, the under-underdog with poor coaching and zero support/respect. I have to keep telling myself that it is "character building". Sorry to go on and on. But I thought you'd understand 'cause you're my hero!

Smooth - sorry for all you are going through. I think we can learn so much through sports, it just depends on us to be teachable. So they had a play off, one the first game, and then had a second game 1/2 hour later to a team which didn't play 2 games that day. It was a shoot out, and our team was winning with 4 seconds to go, and the other team busted out with an extraordinary run, with a bullet-kid running through the hands of six of our players, got a touchdown with no time left on the clock and the other team one. The close loss is so hard to take. Ben's team thought they had it in the bag and they didn't. My son cried and cried, but after 1/2 an hour, he was more chipper, saw some of the lessons in the experience, and I chatted with him regarding my being passed at St. G, and how we can learn from the experiences where we come up short, but the would-of could-of should-of never does us any good.

Anyway, sports aren't an important part of our lives, but they are, right? After all, we are all on this blog, supporting each other through training and LIFE.

Go to bed Michelle :) I just finished some chocolate covered cinnamon bears and am ready for a good nights sleep. I hope all is BORING through the night and tomorrow too. Please call me later if you need the boys to play while you maybe go for a visit. I promise to clean my house ;)
