Personal:

I used to run for BYU, but only after trying out three times and finally walking on, so I was never a star. However, it was wonderful to run with great people and under Coach Shane. When you run with fast people, you can't help to improve! I graduated BYU in 1998, and didn't run a race until 2002, after having my second child. My hiatus and other crazy life commitments have made my competitive running suffer, but the last couple of years I have tried to get back into it the best I can. I have been married since 1996, to Paul Lowry, who is a runner himself. I have three boys (my three rascals), ages 12, 10, and 8.

After a great 2008 season, I was injured and eventually diagnosed and cross-diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a type of arthritis disease, which precludes running for all but the most stubborn.  So I am on medications, trying to stay healthy, and seeing my PT often.  And running!  Now beating the streets in Hong Kong.

Convinced myself into pool running.  Sure enough, took 2 hours of my day to "run" 4.5 worth of miles (55 minutes).  It felt good, though.  Got oh so boring pretty quickly.  The lanes are 1/2 shallow, 1/2 deep, so I'd turn around at half way to stay deep.  I did 10x approx 45 sec, on/off, then did 4 or 5 x 1:30 on, 45 sec off (it was about 45 sec for a length), then 3x 3:00 on, 45 sec offAt one point there were three swimmers in my lane with me, and a couple seemed like they were trying to play chicken with me.  I'm really not trying to be a tird, but it's so much easier for a swimmer to manuveur around me than for me to move around them, so I just called their bluff every time.  Only very mild soreness in my SI area.  I actually am feeling much better.  I just need to feel good while running.

Have you tried 1/2 lord of the fishes? There is a yoga pose that is very much like a piriformis stretch that really helps me. My bum issues are probably different. Maybe ask Dr Brady if he thinks the piriformis is causing some of the issues. I'm sorry :(

Have you heard of the green smoothie girl? She's a bit nuts, but I may try her smoothies for breakfast.

At least you are getting out there and doing something! Good Job!! What pool did you go to? I would love to swim more but just wish there was a pool closer. I am proud of you though and hope the bum gets better :) (not used to saying that one).

Marion: I need you to show me this yoga move and educate me on green smoothie girl. What's all that about?

From MichelleL on Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 12:16:44 from 71.219.43.168

Marion - Do you mean McKenzie? She drinks green smoothies in the morning. I haven't heard of that pose. You'll have to show me next time.

Kellie - the Springville pool, and it's way too far away. Hey I have a great idea, why don't you put an indoor pool in your backyard and I will come visit when injured? :)

No- there is a web site called the green smoothie girl.. or something like that.

At least you were able to get in some running without pain. Although it sounds like it was 'a pain' to get the training itself in.

Mckenzie- I am just trying the green smoothies out. Mine do taste very good, but there is a bunch of fruit in them. I'm a wimp. Do you add the molasses for Iron?

From kellies on Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 13:39:25 from 160.7.238.59

Oh my heck, I didn't know it was your Birthday! HAPPY Birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Micheeeee'llllll, Happy birthday to you!! I hope you had a great one. I will run the idea past Tyler of putting a pool in our back yard and let you know what he says. With this wonderful economy we are having, I am sure it's doable. HA HA HA!!!

Oh, my gosh, I didn't realize it was my birthday! Oh, well, that's because it's not. Thanks for the well wishes, though.

That's right, now that you say that, I remember you were one of the people at the Party who's birthday was on the 28th!! MY BAD!! Well I think you should start celebrating now anyway and let it roll through the weekend!! May as well~

Hey, were you out running with your hubby this morning? I thought a I saw a couple that may have been you??

From Marion on Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 14:34:19 from 71.219.54.89

That seems down right cruel to have your birthday during tax season! I was actually due in early April, but I held off until the very bitter end as to avoid any tax issues!

From mckenzie on Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 21:05:06 from 75.169.125.184

Didn't mean to start the birthday talk to early, but your injured so celebrate all week! I thought of bringing you cupcakes before you and Paul leave but the cupcakes would be for your family and a protein bar for you didn't sound like much fun.

Marion- I add the molasses for iron as well as it helps keep the bowels moving. Doesn't taste too great but I don't mind 1 tbsp per smoothie, get the unsulphered-blackstrap molasses. -Not to be graphic-
