Did a half a few years ago, unsure of my time but nothing to write home about. I trained about 6 months and then took about 2yrs. off. Started running again this year but have never done anything serious.

Short-Term Running Goals:

keep running, stay fit and healthy, while having fun. Would like to get my mileage up to 25 miles a week and plan some short races when I get confident with my speed.

Get my mileage back up and run pain free!

Beautiful day for a run.  I got two miles that were painful throughout!  I am so frustrated.  I survived the cold of winter and it's primo running conditions and I don't think that I can continue to do this to my body... I'm at work now and can barely walk.  The area around the hip is swollen it's terribly painful!  I hate to be taking time of right now, it seems that I run once a week and then think that I can get back out there and then I'm back to square one!  I should do something, I'm debating between P.T and chiro does anyone have any suggestions which would be better?  It involves the IT band and the surrounding muscles and I think that it's tightness and other stuff but I've iced and used heat and massaged and used the foam roller to stretch it out... where do I go frome here?

From what I have heard/read from other IT band sufferers- stop running. Recover. I am so sorry to hear you are injured! Your dedication and running consistency kept me going through many a run. Hang in there!

Ah! I don't know what to tell you except that I've heard the same thing as Bethany, to just stop until it's better. Not a very nice thing though. I hope it gets better quick!

I think you could benifit from both at this point. The chiro will help get the hip back in place and the pt will help rehab that injury. Sometime you can find a good pt or chiro that will do both.

Uh-oh! I agree with Bethany. If it hurts that much, it is probably counterproductive to run. Is there some kind of cross-training you could do that doesn't aggravate it?

Michelle, Hey, not fair, one of the WOWs, no justice from old man winter running. Good sports medicine doctor?

So sorry you are in pain.

I am so sorry - I completely understand you frustration. I have been having deep tissue massage and it is helping, just very slow recovery and I am not good and taking it easy.

Hey Michelle! Sorry that hip is still giving you grief? Do you belong to a gym where you can cross train? Thinking of you!

From Christi on Mon, Mar 17, 2008 at 20:46:08

How's life? How's the hip? Needing a Michelle update! Take care of yourself!

Oh, Michelle! I'm sorry you're hurting! I hope that taking off for a week is helping at least a little. Did you find a chiro, PT, or massage therapist? Hope you're doing better. I know it must be so aggravating right now. You'll be back out there soon!!!

Hi Michelle, you are missed. Hope you are hanging in there with the added stresses! Good luck, you have lots of cyber friends thinking and praying for you and your family!
