Timpanogas Peak

Not sure how to count this in running miles, Alex and I hiked to Timpanogas Peak, which is about 16 miles round trip, about 6000 feet elevation gain and summit I think is over 11,700 feet. Cant say I got my heartbeat up alot but I know Im exhuasted and more worn out than any race or practice run. For now Ill just say 6 miles of running. Any Utah runners who have hiked this mountain have any comparisons?

Ran in Draper 5K. The race was fun and I did OK. Had trouble sleeping as we dont have cooling the night before and it was about 90 and my stomach is still recovering from recent colonoscopy - so go my excuses for not doing better. I was 159th of 355 at 26:13 which is a good improvement from last year when I was 219th of 435 at 28:35. I like the race course as there is downhill. Nice polyester T-shirt but I didnt like the design though. Its also a one way race - so I ran the 1.5 mile back to car after the race slowly, but I didnt walk

Race was hot,but at least sun didnt get over mountains until after I finished race. I can tolerate the heat more than the direct sun. I did first mile OK,died some on hill and thanks to Sasha who came back and gave me some encouragement in the last section of the race which saved me a little time and held off a couple of other runners, although I was dead tired and didnt have much of a kick left.

I seem to be stuck around the 26 minute mark, but at least that is a 2 minute improvement from last year average. I have only been running again for about 1 1/2 years after many many years absence and the last 3 months is really the first training as last year was mainly just doing some fun races. Im probably stuck at 26 minutes because my training runs are my typical slow constant speed and I probably need to do some speed work. Any ideas out there for me?

Its always disappointing for me to come close to the previous lower minute, I always wonder surely for the whole race I could have shaved 15 seconds off and got say 25:58 Oh well maybe next time.

It always amazes me some of the fast runners in my 50s age group. Some are amazing runners and have such a dedicated training effort.I can only train off and on based on work and family, but slowly am doing better. Some of the young folks amaze me too in their efforts. I think both Breana Cobler and Zak Erikson had one of their better races. My 10 year old son did well too winning his age group around 22 minutes. He is a good runner and probably has potential to be a great runner. Ive heard different scenarios of how much a young boy should run in training and how far. What are your thoughts out there? Recently Ive been told more short runs and speed work would be better and to keep it under 20 miles a week for him

Im starting to enjoy running. After I recover I feel good. My mind and body both seem to want to run if I miss it. I still fight the negative thoughts in the race, they are too frequent but eventually some positive ones come and I keep going.Ineed to keep going formy health and to keep up with my fast 10 year old. Last year I was up to 205 pounds, now Im hovering around 190,would like to loose 10 more which may help my health and even time a little
