  • 2:59 Marathon
  • 1:25 Half Marathon
  • 18:30 5K

Long-Term Running Goals:

Maintain my health and continuously seek to improve my fitness. Maybe someday get under 3:00 for marathon. More importantly, I'd like to figure out what my maximum ability is and reach that.

I'd also like to find the right balance in life and use running to enhance and improve myself.

Personal:

Dad of  three (welcome Charlotte Dani on 8/10/20) awesome kids and stepdad to three almost as awesome as my own kids.

I have a brown dog named Stella, and three cats - Catty, Tortie, and Esperanza.

(old lines that were a little out of date but couldn't quite bring myself to removing them completely:) Also, have one wonderful brown dog named Sammy and just added a grey tiger cat (Catty) whose life started out rough but now has a better home.

I've recently started another blog so I can easily add lots of pictures and so other non-FRB users can leave comments:

Forward Progress!

Also, for 2012 I started a blog to write down each day one thing that I am grateful for

Grateful Blog

I decided it would be best to take at least one day off from running and then see how it goes after that.  I booked a massage for later in the afternoon, fortunately there was an opening available with such late notice.

Felt a great deal better after the massage.  I was encouraged that during the massage there were no points on my leg that hurt during the stretching and massaging.  Afraid that she would hit some specific area and it would hurt,  but that was not the case.

Felt pretty good this morning.  Plan was to run with Jenny.  Start out with her at least for the loop around the neighborhood, see how I felt and return home if there was any pain before heading out further into the next neighborhood.

Felt good and headed out towards the golf course.  It was a nice cool morning and was also nice since it is not so dark anymore with the time change.

Jenny was doing 11 miles, so I headed home while she was doing one final loop (the opposite of our runs the past few weeks).

I stretched out after the run, noticed a little bit of soreness that went away as I stretched more.  Felt good that my leg was not hurting.  Maybe I'll be ok?

Later that morning while at work, noticed my leg hurting.  It is a very low level pain.  It's a very tolerable discomfort but one that I am not going to ignore.  Made Dr. appointment but can't get into see her until next Wed. (11/11) because she is going out of town the end of this week.

Going to rest a bit and then try some cross training if it doesn't hurt.

No running this morning.   Slept in a bit but did wake up when Jenny woke up as she got ready to run before I went back to bed.

No pain today.  Glad that I can at least walk around with no pain.  Up and down stairs is also not a problem.  Almost tempting to run but I'm going to wait a bit longer.

Another day of no running.  Feeling more and more back to normal. Would love to test things out but want to wait some more.

I can't believe the week has mostly gone by already.  No running this morning.  Also, felt very tired when I woke up despite getting more sleep than I had been getting.

I'm going to hit the gym tonight for some light cross training on arc trainer and maybe some upper body weights to get the blood pumping.

P.M. - went to they Y after work.  Everyone went along.  Jenny helped out Andy on some of the machines and some weights.  I did a very conservatively paced 20 minutes on the elliptical machine.  No pain during (of course, but that is not what I am worried about).  I don't think there was any pain afterward either but my mind was playing tricks on me, too.

Another day of no running.  Slept in and went with Jenny and the  boys to watch Tae Kwon Do class.  While at the Y I did a total of 11 minutes on a recumbent bike.

Went to Costco after class for Saturday afternoon fun.

Did some backyard camping that evening.  While getting ready, Jenny said that she did not have anyone to run her 16 miler with the next day.   There happened to be a half marathon, so she would do that with a 2.9 mile warm up before the race.  No intentions of  "racing" it but most likely wanting to run it at goal marathon pace (8:35).
