So many things went wrong since Saturday morning.  I didn't get enough protein after the race, I didn't ice, I didn't stretch properly, I slept on the ground two nights in a row.....By Monday morning, I could not move my head.  I'd screwed up both  my upper and my lower back.  Even after 800 mg of Ibuprofen,  I still considered lying in bed all day, but then thought immobility might be worse than limited movement.  By yesterday, I was in so much pain, I  called a massage therapist friend and he gave me an hour and a half massage on just my back and glutes.  My upper back responded, my lower back still hurts.  I hobbled through 4 miles on legs that felt like dried jerky.  I could blame it all on the big effort on Saturday, but I felt so good after the race-- not one thing hurt during or after the race.  I honestly think sleeping on the ground did me in (it was the last days of Summer for my kids, was I supposed to say no? I'm always such a party-pooper when it comes to camping).  I have 18 miles to run on Saturday and if I don't get these 2 long runs in, SG is all messed up.  I was doing so well!!  How could this happen?  It's always something.

So sorry to hear that your lower back is giving you grief. Looks like you know what should/could've been and are doing what's needed to recover.

We never know how our body respond to the stress (racing and training are real stress) we put on them. Give it some time; it will get better. Take one day at a time. Rest up and you will be ready for Sat's run. Still 5 weeks before SG, it's not all messed up! Keep the faith! Sending positive vibes your way!

I'm with you...it's always something. You'll fight through it though, I know it. You are one tough chick. Keep up the massage, I'm sure it'll respond soon!

Look at those strong legs in your new picture! You will do fine. Keep up the massage and stretching and ice before and after your run on Saturday and you can still make it to where you want to be.

Where are you running this Sat? We are planning to run up Provo Canyon and down on the PR trail. We'll start at 6am. somewhere at the mouth of the canyon.

That would be awesome if you came to Provo Canyon! We will be starting at Will's Pit Stop and running 9 up (just a little beyond Vivian park) and back. We'll probably start around 6:00 as well.

From LuzyLew on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 12:42:18 from 208.187.197.42

If you start at the mouth, it's almost 7 to vivian, if you start at Will's or the Riverwoods, you get an extra mile or 2). Where do you want to start?

From LuzyLew on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 12:43:06 from 208.187.197.42

Or if we start at the mouth, we can get 3 good uphill miles past vivian.

From Smooth on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 12:48:42 from 71.36.82.218

The group is doing 20. Mary has TOU as her first. But I don't need 20.

I am so glad you told me about the mileage to Vivian. I don't want to run more up than needed. I think I will start with you at Will's Pit stop. Can we park our car there or is there someplace else? I am so excited!

From LuzyLew on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 12:52:53 from 208.187.197.42

Yes there are places to park at the trail head just west of the gas station, or even along the east side of the parking lot. Butw e can still start with the group at the mouth of the canyon and run just past vivian, and still keep it under 20. I'll PM you my number and details.

Hey- you are not a party pooper. Camping STINKS!! You are no longer allowed to go camping the 6 weeks before st George and NEVER right after a 1/2 or more :) Do you need me to write you a note? :)
