I can not believe the difference a day makes.  I was so great yesterday, I did not expect what happened today.  I could not pick it up.   I was giving my absolute best effort only to discover I was running 9:45's.  I was out of breath, exhausted, and felt like I weighted 500 lbs.  When I got home I actually did weigh myself and was shocked that I'd actually dropped 2 more pounds (not to worry folks, I've got plenty to survive on).  I must be dehydrated and not quite better yet.  Wow.  I am so tired.  When I finished I was sweaty and spent as if I had run a marathon.  I've been waffeling about the Freedom Run, and as sad as it is to say this, I think that for the first time in 8 years, I think I'll skip it or go just to cheer for Catherine and anyone else whose running it.

Good idea to not race when you are not 100% healthy. I received a lesson on that this year. I ran the SLC Track Club 10 K with what appeared to be a minor cold, and ended up with a major ear infection.

Also recovery after an illness, especially post marathon illness can take a long time. So today's results are to be expected. You need some time to rebuild your health before you start pushing. So maybe jog 4 miles a day at 10:30 pace or whatever feels good for a week or more, then re-evaluate depending on how you feel.

Half-marathon in a week and a half might not be a good idea either unless you go slow.

Luzy,

Sorry to hear your run didn't turn out as good as yesterday. It's frustrating when our body doesn't bounce back as quick as we'd like it to. I agree with your assessment...that weight loss might mean you're not hydrating well, body is still recovering. Take good care. You will be back to your former healthy self soon!!!

Luzy,

Oh, I love your new pic. You're airborne there!!! Very Cool!!!

I am sorry that you are not feeling as great as you thought, but you will recover!! Just take it easy.

My entire brood is heading down to run the 5k. I will be pushing my two youngest in a stroller and running with my 9 year old who is hoping to break 30 minutes this time. Fun stuff. Are there any hills in this course? I have a hard time pushing the stroller with 70 pounds in it uphill!

I'm so sorry that you're still not feeling 100%!! Recovery is the hardest part of running (I think) you're mentally ready and willing to go, but the body doesn't cooperate. Keep up the good eating and hydrating and rest...you'll be back in NO time!!

Thanks for the advice Sasha, and the well wishes everyone. I can't do anything but take it slow...so slow it is. Kelly-I can only remember the 10 K course. It sucks because there is about .3 uphill start and almost 1 mile uphill toward the end, and it doesn't start until 7:00 a.m. which, is too late in the day to be running in full-on sunlight down University Ave. I can't remember the course for the 5K! It's been 10 years since I've run that one. I think it's great you have a 9 year old interested in breaking 30 minutes. I have a 10 year old who pouts and drags his feet. I hear you on the 70 pounds of kid-in-a-stroller. I pushed my two kids in a stroller until they were 3 & 5 it was well over 100 lbs of kid. But it was a well constructed stroller so I could hardly feel it. You'll love being down for the Provo festivities-- It is America's Freedom Festival!! I'll be on the street cheering for you!

My 10 year old drags his feet, too, but he will be running (by choice) as well. We just leave him be to do his run/walk thing! My 9 year old loves it, though! We have broken 30 minutes twice unofficially, so we will see!

Hope to see you out there somewhere!
