Wow, today was windy.  Trees and branches blown all over the trail.  It was like an obstacle course.  Good for resistance training right?    I love the added challenge of weather or running on packed ice.  Anyone can run on a nice day.  Only a few weeks left to run with Amanda.  I assume she'll be taking Derek's Garmin with her when she goes....  Until I ran with her, I never paced myself or knew exactly how far I ran.  I'd gauge my run on time.  Do I need a Garmin?  Hmm.

I understand how hard it is to lose Amanda as a partner...she is so dedicated and consistent. That lady came to my house and ran with me around the block in the snow all winter long. Good pace.

I like having a Garmin but it can also be stressful on days you feel like slowing down but don't really want the Garmin beeping at you at telling you how slow you are going.

Welcome to the blog! I think Garmins are awesome. I bummed readings off of my running buddies for about a year before I figured I better buy my own. It's hard to lose a running companion but there are thousands of runners in your area, so I bet you can find another companionable companion with a little effort.

Welcome to the blog! Where did you go to school in San Diego? I went to St. Michaels (in National City) and then to University High School.

The Coronado 1/2 marathon sounds fun! Much flatter than America's Finest City.

If you live where you do there is no need for a Garmin. The trail is marked every 1/16th of a mile. Keep your eye out for the magic triangles. They go in cycles of 1-2-3-4 and repeat every quarter mile. If you get sick of running on the trail you can plot out a course with the Course Tool. It will also tell you how you should adjust your pace based on the elevation profile.

Tell Amanda that if she gets on the blog you'll be able to follow and comment on her training while she is gone.
